liuhao Posted June 20, 2007 Posted June 20, 2007 plan to use it to wrap Ecophon Master A. :-) or what is the speaker grill cloth called? by the way, i found the Ecophon Master A is pretty light, measured 1.8kg only. i believe the 3M mounting tape has enough glue strength to stick the panel to wall. thanks.
liuhao Posted June 20, 2007 Author Posted June 20, 2007 found speaker grill cloth maker...made of vinyl coated fabric glass. not cheap. US$15 per yard. costs more than the panel. hehe...guess burlap is more affordable.
liuhao Posted June 21, 2007 Author Posted June 21, 2007 found jute fabric in spotlight but no white color. lightest is still a bit yellowish. the fabric also feels a bit hard...
koma Posted June 21, 2007 Posted June 21, 2007 u can try go joo chiat complex find for those normal cloth. i got mine at $2/m. i used those that when i pull up can c light thru it n can feel some air when i blow thru it.
liuhao Posted June 21, 2007 Author Posted June 21, 2007 thanks. will check it out. oh yes, another thing, once i wrap the panel, i believe the back side not flat anymore with the fabric edges. will that be a problem when i try to glue it to wall/ceiling? using liquid nail? thanks.
koma Posted June 21, 2007 Posted June 21, 2007 yup wun be flat. i used those carpet "yellow" glue both dunlop n elephant brand not a prob but u gotta wait awhile after u use it on the panels for it to dry out abit then stick it on n hold the panel there for awhile. thanks. will check it out. oh yes, another thing, once i wrap the panel, i believe the back side not flat anymore with the fabric edges. will that be a problem when i try to glue it to wall/ceiling? using liquid nail? thanks.
liuhao Posted June 22, 2007 Author Posted June 22, 2007 that's great info. thanks. just share some findings. i found the back side (un-painted with fibre glass fabric side) has more sound absorption property. it may be over absorptive for some room if use that side. my room is very bright sounding but even that if i use the back side, the sound is less dynamic and a bit dull. the white painted side seems just nice to give enough warmth to the room while retain the dynamic.
liuhao Posted June 22, 2007 Author Posted June 22, 2007 found the fabric in a curtain shop near my place. a bit expensive though but exactly what i am looking for.
koma Posted June 22, 2007 Posted June 22, 2007 ok no prob bro btw im using the unpainted side in my case i find this placement works better for me
benzx Posted June 25, 2007 Posted June 25, 2007 I'm using the unpainted side for front wall, first reflection points behind speakers, and using the painted side for side walls.
wolverex Posted June 30, 2007 Posted June 30, 2007 so where did you guys get your fabric from ? apart from spotlight and joo chiat complex? also i do believe that having a space between your panel and wall leaving an air space in between will help absorbtion of longer wavelengths aka lower frequencies. so that would mean mounting the panel on a wooden frame behind it and then mounting the frame to the wall is a great idea, sturdy and acoustically effective! lastly i have an idea of mounting the fabric onto the panel. since i do believe that the panel itself is not very stiff , wrapping the panel directly may not produce a nicely formed cuboid. I think building another frame just to hold the fabric could be implemented, this frame will have an inner dimension equal to that of the panel so it can just slide over it and should there be a need to clean the fabric, just slide off the frame, easy-peasy =) what do you all think?
liuhao Posted July 2, 2007 Author Posted July 2, 2007 i am getting the guiford of marine acoustic fabric, FR701. supposed to be acoustic transparent or only has +-0.05 impact on sound absorption coefficient. i ordered online via cinema design in US. price was US$15 per yard. now on the way to singapore.main reason i did this was the fabric is proven (ASC tube trap is using it) and also not very expensive comparing to fabric i can get locally. btw i tried the Hessian fabric from spotlight. it's cheap (S$3 per meter with 1.5 meter width) but it's too rough also lots of hair dropping. couldnt find better quality hessian locally. i agree that there is endless posibility about how to make good use of the panel or how to make it look nice. however DIY is not very easy here in Singapore bcos raw materials are hard to find. or i would say unlike in US, not many DIYer here locally to exchange information and experience so end of days it's become an individual effort which is very very limited. lots of things seems easy but when you actually do it, it takes big effort to find tools, materials etc.there has to be a community behind every DIY effort. engaging a contractor of course solves all the problem but it costs a lot so may as well get those branded ready made and user friendly panels.
wolverex Posted July 2, 2007 Posted July 2, 2007 sharks mate, if i had known you were going to go for that option i would have recommended you http://www.fabricmate.com/fabricsale.htm it's cheaper..
liuhao Posted July 3, 2007 Author Posted July 3, 2007 thanks. ya it's US$1 cheaper per yard. next time i will order from there. hehe...
synthesis1624705793 Posted July 3, 2007 Posted July 3, 2007 Well, if you guys don't want to wrap the panel with fabric, how about spray paint it. :D This setup belongs to one of our bros here. ;)
liuhao Posted July 5, 2007 Author Posted July 5, 2007 i must say the yellow paint spray is super nice, especially so with the blue wall paint. damn my fabric still not arriving yet. 10 days since i placed the order. somemore i chose the next expedited shipping but still slow like this.
liuhao Posted July 7, 2007 Author Posted July 7, 2007 have glued wrapped panels to rear wall. will post a picture later. thanks for the helps.
wolverex Posted July 13, 2007 Posted July 13, 2007 Hey may i know what colour you picked for your FR 701?
liuhao Posted July 14, 2007 Author Posted July 14, 2007 Hey may i know what colour you picked for your FR 701? the one in the picture is pearl. it's slightly warm light grey. it looks dark (as in the picture) in the evening but lighter under day light. i ordered another color which is star silver or something. that one is slightly cool bluish color light grey.
