Planning to take my 6 yr old daughter to tokyo disney on her birthday in Oct this year.  Can't seems to find any tour package that is purposely for disney, thus seems have to do it free-and-easy.  Planning to stay in the disney hotel.

Anyone been to tokyo disney?  Any good recommendation on accomodation, transport and place of visit?

i think if you're staying at the disney hotel, you can get good deals from disney's own website, at least for the accomodation.

make sure you set aside some time for tokyo disneysea, which is the ocean-themed park right next door. it is not as kid-friendly as disneyland - aimed more at teenagers and adults - but it is very nice and there's no other disneysea in the world.

your daughter sounds like a lucky girl...  :)

anyone who had been there before, is the hotel inside disneysea worth the extra $$$ over the disney ambassasor hotel which is located outside both disneysea and disneyland?

It's not a problem to do Free and Easy in Tokyo.  From Narita airport, just take the Airport Express bus to your hotel.  From there, travel by their MRT is very easy although you do need to know how to recognise chinese characters.  Day tours to places like Mount Fuji and Asakusa temple can be easily arranged at those mini travel agencies.  For lodging wise, I have stayed at Hyatt and Hilton over in Shinjuku and I find both hotels very nice.  Unless you plan to stay more than one day in Disneyland, frankly there's no point staying there.  Other areas of interest include Ueno park where you can catch pandas, Ginza for luxuries shopping, Shibuya and Akihabara for electronics, Shinjuku and Ronponggi for the Night Life.

I am in Shinjuku now and might pop into Disneyland Sea on Saturday. You can buy the tickets in Disneyland or in Takashimaya shopping malls. If you are in Japan for the first time, try to get the tourist pocket guide free from Narita or the hotels.

Try to stay in international hotel if you are new and cannot speak Jap. Hilton (preferred) and Hyattt hotels in Shinjuku are fairly OK but a bit more expensive (which is worth it). Both hotels are in business districts in Shinjuku and you can take the hotel bus (leaves every 20 minutes) to the many shopping malls in Shinjuku. By the way, the subway is just 10 minutes walk from these 2 hotels.

Disney hotels are nice but you may have limitations when come to food and shopping. Food in Disney hotel is expensive and actually not very nice. Try to bring a japanese-english dictionary if possibe as language is a major problem here.

For local hotels, I have stayed in Sunshine 60 hotel a few years ago in Ikebukuro station and it is quite convenient and cheaper than Hyatt and Hilton. Try to get a few day pass for the excellent subway system as it is cheaper.

One thing that strikes you when you are in Japan is that they are really very neat and clean people and their service is so good that really put us to shame.

Every woman here is just so unbelievably well dressed and doll up (apart from Koreans) that it so just distracting. So keep an eye on your wifey or daughter or you may lose track of them in crowded Tokyo ;D

Been to Tokyo Disneyland. All you need is a full day to cover all the attractions and rides. Be aware that the theme park is geared mainly for Japs, all the programs are narrated in Japanese. Don’t expect any onsite translation service.

Disney Sea, on the other hand, is meant for couples with its romantic theme so I doubt your little girl will appreciate the park. Could be a nice getaway for you and your spouse though, that’s provide you can get someone to tend your kid.

Personally, I prefer shopping in Ueno over Shinjuku, Shibuya and Ginza for good bargains. Akihabara is a must for computer geeks but will probably bored the ladies to death there.

One-way airport limousine service cost 3,000 Yen and is quite idiot-proof with English announcement. If you have problem navigating the train network, just keep a lookout for the station master. Most of them speak a little English and are always ready to offer help.

Lastly, do drop by JTB over at Taka. I got a pretty good free and easy package from them for my Tokyo holiday.

Sorry to hijack the this thread. My family of 4 (incld 2 small kids) is in USA presently and planning to bring them to Tokyu Disneyland on route back to Singapore this december. The flight will be arriving in Narita Airport. I am doing some budgeting for the hotels and disney tickets and hope not burst the wallet to enjoy the trip. I am planning to stay 4 days in Tokyu.

I could use some guidance from the kakis here regarding the cost of hotels, disneyland tickets, commuting (MRT/buses) prices and places of interest for young kids and etc.

Thanks in advance.

My thoughts exactly.  And you wouldn't have the language problem either.

Been to the LA Disneyland Resort a few time already... Just thought of visiting Disneyland Japan and the country enroute back home... as will be more expensive to do it when back in Singapore.

Please give their rough idea about the location.

4. I personally recommend to take English Tokyo tour as it's first time to

have problems just write on a paper in chinese words. 二人、三人 they will understand. I usually stay at Toyoko Inns in Japan. Small hotel room with attached bathroom, no frills but clean and they provide FREE internet connection in your room and breakfast.

Likely will be spending 3 nights at the disney hotel.  First day touch down from the midnight flight, do some shopping and rest early.  Next 2 days will spend one day each at Disneyland and Disneysea, likely will be there all the way till the evening finale.

First time bringing daughter for holiday, so decide to give her a good one on her birthday, before she starts pri 1 next year.

Disneyland area not much shopping other than the disney shops. There is one big shop called BON VOYAGE think it should be interesting enough to entertain your child :p

Below Bon Voyage is some shopping mall thingy i think - stock various expensive brands etc.

One of the thing must ride is the children roller-coaster ...my kid rode 2 times and enjoy it very much ....even adults came over to take the children ride instead of the Adults type of roller coaster.....

I have been to tokyo 3 times. First two times go Disneyland, third time last year do DisneySea. I think Disney land is more fun leh. DisneySea seems to be rather small.

But I remember kenna conned by the TOWER of TERROR in disney sea. From the name I thought it is like house of terror kind of stuff, basically got things jump up and scare you..... BUT after I queue and enter the building and saw the seat I know it is scary kind. The seat has full body harness and is the kind of things that moves you very high and shoot you down VERY FAST.

If I know I will NEVER go that attraction as I scared of heights....

The main adv for staying near disneyland instead of tokyo is that you can catch the late parades, etc, and return to hotel easily. Which is good. I think you should spend the night in one of the disney hotels.

Actually why spend 3 nights at disney hotels? I think there are plenty of things to see in Tokyo even for a child. Seriously, at least if her classmates ask her what country she went and she say japan, she can do a show and tell consisting of more interesting things about japan, rather than disneyland only.......

my 2 cents.

I was in disneyland land yesterday. FYI, the shuttle bus recommended in the earlier thread only leaves in the morning before 9.30. So I missed the bus and had to take the train.

Food was a bit of problem (unlike HK's) as most are fast food burgers, rolls,  pizza and fried stuff. Managed to have Japanese rice bowl  ;D Plaza restaurant near Tomorrow land. So search no more if you cannot tahan fast food from morning to night.

Yesterday there were a few parades and for the first time, there was this electrical night parade which was really dazzling. Try to get a seat along the road 30 mins before the parade start. I stayed till it close and there was no Fireworks!  >:( :(Disney firework is the best as it synchronise with the disney music).Anyway, yesterday was not a holiday and yet it was quite crowded (mainly japs and even shows are in japs). Try not to go on a holiday or weekends as I cannot imagine. Otherwise, you have to queue>30 mins for each ride or you may have to book rides in advance.

Try not to miss the cool shuttle bus (600 yen adult 300 children) when you leave. The terninal is on the extreme right when you exit from disney main exit. Lighting at night is pretty bad and wrong turn can result in a very long walk.

One thing good about disney japan  compared to disney HK is that the crowd control is good and the japs are very orderly and really clean. There are no crowds of grown up comical mainland chinese men wearing suits  :D(I am chinese anyway) running around pushiing away small kids for rides which was really an embarrassment.

BTW, disney aside, avoid Akihabara the electronics haven if you have a kid in tow.  It is crowded, dirty and worst than sim lim and most cannot speak english. Whatever you want can get it SLS anyway except for 1080p stuff and latest video cam which are so darn cheaper , which you are bettter off getting from pricejapan and collect from your hotel with no delivery charge.

i feel disneysea more family oriented and ride less thrilling. so if u got kids and old ppl, disneysea a better choice. go in summer ad u will see fireworks.
