sdds Posted June 12, 2007 Posted June 12, 2007 which subwoofer that excels iin shifting air (slam) in the 12 inch category , m&k ,svs .klipsch ,hsu ,REL,jJL Audio fathom ,vandersteern ,velodyne ?Any comments which of these above subwoofer will do at good job in the slam category.
Jag Posted June 12, 2007 Posted June 12, 2007 Not all 12" sub perform the same(even from the same brand). Different price points cater to different groups of customers. Personally, I feel "shifting air" is not really the "slam" type of bass. To me, "shifting air" bass is infrasonic bass. Better clarify your words used, coz different ppl will give their own personal opinions which may be not suitable for you. But Id still give the SVS PB+/PC+ upwards my seal of approval. :) Hsu is another one worth considering. I've gone thru REL Strata and Storm, but they just CMI for HT duties. I can't give comments on other brands since I do not have as intimate experience with them as I have with SVS, Hsu and REL.
sdds Posted June 13, 2007 Author Posted June 13, 2007 thks jag ,svs and hsu subwoofers are worth getting for the given price but the problem is that is only available in usa.just wonder when will the local agent bring in this wonderful subwoofers.
synthesis1624705793 Posted June 13, 2007 Posted June 13, 2007 I bought my Hsu from Reference Audio, behind Asia Sound, Adelphi. Check with them. You may check the mass order section whether there's MO going on for SVS.

I heard Hsu is an branded sub, is it right? Wonder how is the performance compares to SVS? Cheers!
synthesis1624705793 Posted June 13, 2007 Posted June 13, 2007 I bought original VTF-2 probably about 5 yrs ago :) Price was less than 1k I think. I never compared to SVS but if Dr Bass Jag said it's worth considering, it can't be that bad. ;)

sdds Posted June 13, 2007 Author Posted June 13, 2007 From numerous reviews hsu seems to be a better subwoofer than svs in therms of music playback, those with hsu and svs subwoofer would like to commend on this.Been to jeason yeo house ,his svs subwoofers really sound wonderful ,really can to a lot of damage to the building foundation! His m&k 5000 thx subwoofer really can go low and is mixes very well with svs subwoofer.I agree with him using mulitple subwoofers does help to bring home cinema into the next level of enjoyment.I am hoping to do the same but in a smaller scale.
Jag Posted June 13, 2007 Posted June 13, 2007 Multiple subs does bring the enjoyment to a higher level. Of course, its tricky to say exactly how many subs there are in a "multiple subwoofer" setup. Sme say 2 is enough, some say 4, others say 6.......... its all up to you to decide how much is enough, and what subs are worth your effort to invest in. Or how much bias you want towards music or HT. IMO, HT bass and audiophile bass are quite different( at least to my bass taste.) End of the day, its the enjoyment that counts. Good luck in our subwoofin'. :)
Phil1624705739 Posted June 13, 2007 Posted June 13, 2007 Up till today, I still prefer the kind of bass my old REL Strata III delivered for music. That said, when it comes to HT, nothing come quite close to a SVS for its price. Phil
sdds Posted June 14, 2007 Author Posted June 14, 2007 Rel subwoofers is still suited more for music than home theater ,if u compare to svs which is more suitable for home theater ,really not sure which brand of subwoofer can do a good job for music and home theater ?
