chubbyman Posted June 12, 2007 Posted June 12, 2007 Hiya, My cousin just bot the HTZ656DVD home theatre. He is having issues placing the 4 tall boy speakers that comes along with the system. The front speakers can be easily placed but he has problems placing the rear speakers. He wants to place it behind the sofa but does it mean that he needs to lay additional cable? or can detach the speakers and mount the speakers on the wall? Any advice? ??? I am newbie myself, so couldn't advise him on it. cheers ;D
SiriuslyCold Posted June 12, 2007 Posted June 12, 2007 if the speakers are not wireless, he will have to lay cables from the receiver unit to behind the sofa. check out Dolby's guide here. the speakers may be detachable - I dunno this model - but if they are, he can hang them from the ceiling slanted slightly downwards ('firing' towards the listening position)
chubbyman Posted June 13, 2007 Author Posted June 13, 2007 thanks for the note. Will relay the message. I don't think the speakers are detachable though .. hmm.. ???
SiriuslyCold Posted June 13, 2007 Posted June 13, 2007 how was your friend going to hang tallboy speakers?
chubbyman Posted June 13, 2007 Author Posted June 13, 2007 how was your friend going to hang tallboy speakers? my cousin actually, .. he is not sure either .. just told him about it . .he said he will try to detach the speakers .. ;D if not, then put the speakers on the floor lor i guess ... :) either that or maybe mount the speakers horizontally? hmm.
deepakvali Posted June 13, 2007 Posted June 13, 2007 it all depends on what you want out of your speakers, if you wanna be so sticky on speaker placement in accordance to Dolby recommendation, then your proposal will not work. else anything also can as long as it suits your layout n application ;)

chubbyman Posted June 19, 2007 Author Posted June 19, 2007 we have a slight situation here.. ;D we decided to not mount the speakers on the wall since it is too long. Instead we decided to place the speakers behind the sofa. Problem now is the cable supplied by pioneer is not long enough. The cables provided are not the thick type but the thin wires and Pioneer made them with a type of connector head (looks like those lan cable head). What should we do? Can we custom make the cables? ??? thank you for your advice in advance Cheers ;D
SiriuslyCold Posted June 19, 2007 Posted June 19, 2007 you can but you'll need to re-terminate the cables using similar heads
chubbyman Posted June 19, 2007 Author Posted June 19, 2007 you can but you'll need to re-terminate the cables using similar heads Hi SC, thanks for the note. Anyone has recommendation for the shop to custom cables? Cheers
SiriuslyCold Posted June 19, 2007 Posted June 19, 2007 LHS, level 2 @ Sim Lim Tower speak to Robert. I hope this is solely for the purpose of getting a longer cable - as opposed to trying for better sound (not worth it with HTiB speakers)

I hope this is solely for the purpose of getting a longer cable - as opposed to trying for better sound (not worth it with HTiB speakers) yup .. just to get a longer cable. Can't expect top quality sound. I have seen some cables that are quite thick. The pioneer supplied ones are the thin type of wires. Not sure how different they are :D thanks for your information again! really appreciate it.
deepakvali Posted June 20, 2007 Posted June 20, 2007 this is e easy way out tat i am gonna propose but this objective is to keep $$ down to the minimum..... ;) just cut the wires in the center and attach new wires within to extend to the desired length, you could either wire tie them together, solder them together or buy mating connectors, this way, your cost would only be the cost of the new wires for extension. in terms of sound quality, it will not affect these to the level that your ears are able to pick them up.
