How big/brand of an LCDTV should I purchase?

Looking at 42" ( is this the sweet spot? )

Any models to recommend? Not going for 1080p as out of budget ( should I wait? ), my budget is about 2.5k.

 

Usage mostly are watching from DVD or Xvid/DivX feeds.
