Guys , do not expect too high on SvS cylinders anymore . Confirm they are not going to ship any SvS to HK right now . See beow ;

"I regret to inform you we are not shipping to your region at the moment. SVS is committed to not only the best speakers and subwoofers, but the best customer service as well. Unfortunately it has become clear we need a local Dealer to maintain such a reputation for service and warehousing of our amazing products.

We will be coming to the China market very soon, but I must ask your patience and to wait a bit longer to make your SVS purchase. I hope we can be found on-line for ordering or even in a store in China before the end of 2007.

I expect it is due to CE power problems . Since SG an HK is in Asia , we may be affected too.Even the latest MO may have problem . Good luck . If I have further news, I will update again .

latest Info from SVS

Hi

I misread your note and thought you were in Hong Kong or mainland China - sorry about that.  Yes, we CAN ship to Singapore and you will be able to order the new PC-Ultra and the 20-39PC+ later this year, pending CE certification, etc.  We're estimating September/October time frame.

Yes, we are working on establishing a dealer in your region of the globe, to improve customer service and reduce shipping costs, etc.

What reduced shipping cost is he talking about when the local dealer will simply mark it up super high to line their own fat pockets.

That's a good point Jeff, but it depends on the level of local service.  If the local dealer takes the time to explain the merits of the respective sub units, understands which is best for the consumer's home theater room, delivers the unit and sets it up based on room calibration and the users equipment, and also offers after sales service should any thing go wrong or require further explanation, then I'll gladly "line their pockets" for that.  You simply can't get that dedication to the consumer by buying online.  However, if the dealer just wants to dump it on me and walk away, then I totally agree with you  ;)

technically he is right that shipping costs be reduced, however the twist is that is to the Dealer and he did not mention that the Dealer would translate this savings to us the Consumers  ;)

he also did not mention that the overall purchase price of the SVS with a local dealer would be the same as that should we ship direct from US  ;D ;D

thats e ugly truth.......so many times when i wanna get a product locally, even if i factor in shipping costs from US, the overall costs is still a good 30% cheaper then local  >:( >:(

30~50% mark ups are commonly seen around consumer products especially the higher end products. I believe its mainly due to the kind of support available to the consumer compared to buying online. Auditing, customer service, responsiveness,  delivery, repairs, etc should be expected from a good dealer...

For eg, anything wrong with the unit, you can request the dealer to come down and check it up, repair, blah... no longer will you need to detect the problem yourself esp beneficial for non technical ppl or busy schedule ppl. Setting it up for you free, will be a good value add from them.

In biz, I think its only fair to profit for including of survival cost, shop rental, pay their employees/ own salary, etc... esp with high end products where movement of goods is limited which they need to mark up to cater for the storage, principle interest, blah.... Pay and enjoy the support.... without lifting a finger which is what a dealer shld do for the local market consumers. Put yourself in their shoe and you may realize that its essential...

Disclaimer: I am not working for or owning any HIFI shop but I am working for an electronic trading house... so I knew a little...

PC-Ultra looks koooolll... :P

Would be nice if you all are doing MO, to know how much each costs.

Since like for PC-Ultra, its shipping weight is around 52kg, I think that shipping will be very costly...

If not, an estimate of the costs of each would be a good indication as compared to online prices?

If I ever upgrade, might as well go all the way with an Ultra.

But considering I still haven't installed my NSD upgrade into my trusty old 25-31PCi, I wonder whether there is any point?  ;D
