just got this TV on Sunday, was delivered today slightly before 12PM...  ;D

will probably do up a short review on it... well maybe not a review, just my thoughts on the Plasma...  :)

Preety decent looking, nice black gloss around the edges and the silver strip running across the base adds a touch of class.

Another view of the unit.

Bought these 2 items today aswell. Realised the Component Cables are a little short 1.2M, so I will probably have to get the Plasma Mounted slightly lower.

Im not about to have the cables stretch to the maximum. The HDMI cable is fine, its 2M long.

Snapped this just now, using the HDMI input. SCV HD box is set at 1080.

Another HD Shot.

I will probably post more pictures in the coming days to show progress updates. It's a shame that for now i'll be using the HTZ434 system from Pioneer.

I will definetely upgrade the soundsystem, but for now this will have to do.

On a side note, the paper version of the user manual that's given is really basic functin usage. For the full version of the manual it's included on a CD that's included in the Package.

A little bit of a pain in the ass, esp if you want to refer to the manual while you try out your new TV.

i've got a question for the pro's here...

is it alright to use the HDMI input to display all channels??

or should the HDMI only be used to display HD channels??

Nice TV, how much did you pay?

HDMI can be used to input all audio / visual, but you will need the coaxial cable from the TV socket in the wall to your TV.

Well we got it at a really good price, normally it sells for $3599. Harvey Norman was having a special offer so we got it at $1999.

We extended the warranty so total cost was $2437.

why will i need the coaxial cable for??

the SCV box is placed there temporarily, the Coax cable is a little too short...

unfortunately won't be able to do a full 5.1 setup cause my mom does not want wires running around the walls...

so dad and myself have decided to use this HT system till year end and then get a proper HT system... inclusive of seperate AMP and speakers and a Blu Ray player...

the house is under a bit of reno now.. contractors coming on monday to knock out the old windows and place new ones in tht reduce glare...

my HT in my room.. LOL.. not really HT la...

brother kingkang, it's so tough to look for LG Plasma users in everywhere, even in AVSforums, it's tough....

I am actually considering the PC5R and deciding between this babe (50PC5R) and the Panasonic 50PV70.

Have you tried forcing the STB to output SD at 576i and let the TV handle the rest of the scaling?

I noticed PC5R has min 1% overscan issue. If you do see clearly, everything has the side details missed out.....

Do you try reducing the color saturation in order for it to look more natural?

How about burnt mark and image retention? Any feedback on this burnt in issue?

1 last thing, have you tried 1080p/24 input via HDMI? is the HDMI 1.3 or 1.1? or 1.3a?

Frankly speaking, i really love the color, XD 2007 does a super solid job in color reproduction. But sometimes, it maybe overdone. So some form of calibration may make it perfect!

also curious if there is any other LG owners here.....

Currently the 42" is $1799 with $200 NTUC/Shell vouchers (no Taka :( ) and the 50" is $3299 by cash in Audio house and $3599 from HN/BD.

Bro,

Im considering the LG 42PC5R , Pana 42PV7HS. 42PV70H and the Hitachi P42A01A ( from cheapest to most ex ).

Comments?

Sitex should be cheaper than x`mas sales?

my personal opinion lah.

The current lowest price you can get, will be the base line. SITEX may have special offer (let's say at the range of $100-300) and additional freebies. Christmas sales will be similar to SITEX. You see if you can wait or not lor.....

Today damn pissed off by BD. The sales guy was trying to make me commit the PC5R (Although I have yet to find out more details on it, just manage to crack into the service menu, and all the salesmen was like, wahh....you're more Pro than us....lol) then he went to ask the TV sales manager and see if can offer me more freebies. Guess what? Foldable bicycles. KNS! I almost want to throw eggs at him, that bicycles is a standard freebies from BD for any purchase more than $1K. My conclusion, they are not difference compared to the Bengz at Audio house. I seriously think that Harvey Norman guys are more sincere......

OK, OT too much liao.

I am actually very very keen in the PC5R, my guess is to push them to the limit at $3299 + NTUC voucher + 5 years warranty. The $200 + 3 years warranty is from LG one. So dun get conned by them. They almost succeeded in mocking me to believe that they exchanged the SAFETY5 with the $200 NTUC voucher.....really sh*ty!!!

I can't comment much about the 42" as I'm hunting for the 50" one. You can forget about BD Vivo, and BD NC. Try BD PS and maybe BD CP. They have all the TVs placing side by side. The problem about the SD is....they are all connecting to that stupid Mio box. PQ damn lousy coz Mio Box can't output 576i signal. I am going to find 1 fine day and bring down my hubstation to test out the recorded programmes and make a final decision. So far LG's PC5R is very proposing, the only downside is the overscan issue (i can't adjust til 0%) and you may need to reduce the color saturation. 42" I think $1799 can get with $200 NTUC vouchers liao. Made in Korea, not SG, not China.

It is single layer panel, same as Pioneer. So reflection is slightly reduced.

Where is bro Phil?! We need your help!! lol!

aiya, it's damn hard to find LG users in SG lah, I dunno what is their marketing guy doing. It's actually quite a good product, why never work hard to push the sales? :D

btw, there is this 100Hz scanning thingy for the 50" which is not included in the 42". I dun really know what's it for, is it more for the SDs?

Just came back from BD IMM.

It's 1799 + $200 NTUC voucher + 5 years safety w/o even bargaining. Hopefully can hit better lows at Sitex.

Compared with Panasonic side by side with HD-DVD as input, the movies they played moved too fast and can't really see the difference. My wife said LG is more natural and hell yeah it's cheaper and visually  the plasma design is better too.

Hehe.. I think I'm more or less into LG now and we'd see how Sitex or Xmas has to offer. I'd just purchase the cheaper between LG or the Pana 42PV40H.

What say u?

Threadstarter bro, too bz with the plasma till nothing to post? lol

er....42" $1799 is nothing lor......if you have the brochure, the SRP is $2099 lor

50" @ $3299 is something lor.....coz the SRP is $3999......it's for their promotional period one. Hopefully SITEX can have more fun :D

I'm bringing my hubstation down to test out various channels from both SCV and mediacorp. Will need my laptop to play some 1080p H.264 mov to see how good is the PQ. Will post my review among the HD-ready 50" from Panasonic (mainly PV70), Hitachi(9800 and the newer models) and LG.
