Norman_Chan Posted May 31, 2007 Posted May 31, 2007 What happen to the HD-DVD manufacturers camp ? Every where is Toshiba HD-DVD player discussion ...when is the other manufacturers going to launch their HD-DVD player ?
petetherock Posted May 31, 2007 Posted May 31, 2007 Right now there is no one else (apart from the X Box) Hence it is so imperative to keep Toshiba alive :)
tsammyc Posted June 1, 2007 Posted June 1, 2007 After the PS3 and particularly after the 1.8 firmware, which obsoleted all the other super expensive Blu-Ray players, I wouldn't be surprised if all the other manufacturers abandon the Blu-Ray platform. They are never going to make any money with the PS3 around so might as well jump to the other camp.... BTW, Samsung and LG make combo players that play both Blu-Ray and HD-DVD
desray Posted June 1, 2007 Posted June 1, 2007 Yeah...LG seems like a sure-doom failure due to many reasons and bugs and Samsung one has yet to be launched. Hopefully the latter will not be a big disappointment for the Combo industry. :P
petetherock Posted June 1, 2007 Posted June 1, 2007 Was reading an interview with the HD DVD bosses in a mag, the main stumbling block is Sony. They have not only players but a huge catalogue of videos, so they have the muscle. And I think the Jap bosses really want to win after Betamax :) Otherwise it may suit all to have one format ( HD DVD I hope) win. BTW Warner is toying with releasing HD DVD / BR hybrid discs :) In any case if the PS3 goes all codes, then I can get one to play my R4 discs and BR too. A little miserable that my XA2 doesn't play my 1000 R4 disc :(
tsammyc Posted June 1, 2007 Posted June 1, 2007 A little miserable that my XA2 doesn't play my 1000 R4 disc :( Just rip them to DVD-RW ;D
darkeststar Posted June 1, 2007 Posted June 1, 2007 I saw on Buffalo's Japanese website advertising a internal HD-DVD rom drive for PCs. does that count?
