Hi friends

I just got new power cables recently, perhaps someone can help:

I got one which costs more and the other is a simper one.

Should I use the better (read more costly one) between the wall socket and the power conditioner, or between the power conditioner and the amp?

Thanks

More components can benefit from the better cable between wall & conditioner (in theory)...  ;)

I had the more ex pc on my source and the cheaper one bet wall socket and conditioner. You can try the other way and see if you can hear any diff.

Just try out both configurations and use the one that pleases your ears. Cheers! ;D

Right!  And if there's no difference, then sell the expensive one and get another of the cheaper one! ;D

Hey Pete,

Don't think its that simple. Different power cords have different characteristics. I did try playing around with my PCs.. and the most expensive one is not between my PS Audio Quintet and the wall socket.  Its the one between the Quintet and my Marantz 9600. Even my AVR wasn't that fussy.  Pt is, just experiment. Afterall, you only have two to try out :)

Thanks, actually I have two fancy ones, and another more cheapo one (came with the Belkin and Xindak conditioner)

I might use that with the video source.

Anyway it seems Xindak is much more costly in SG, my total outlay for cables is about half or less than that in SG.

Ha ha ha...

Did you see the super long thread on pc on Echoloft?

Other than cables and tweaks, pc and conditioners all seems to fall into the voodoo magic catergory as well.

That thread is inhabited by a few unfriendly trolls I am afraid, not everyone is like that thankfully.

Its the cost to benefit ratio, and how vehemently people defend their beliefs :)

I gave it a miss coz I don't expect any new.  ;D

I ever went into a shop in adelphi coz I saw many people there and I thought I just mingle among them.  Turned out to be a demo training for their salespersons and I became a 'live' customer!!.

Anyway, they did a demo of a ordinary PC and one of theirs.  The differences was obvious!  For the ordinary PC, the music sounded obviously 'strained' over a certain passage.  The branded one exhibited none of the strain.

So I went home and tried on the same recording on my low end system with my ordinary computer-type PC.  It was not as good as the hi-end system (of course lah!) of the demo but it definitely did not have the same strain at that particular passage.

My conclusion is that it's not so much of the cable itself but the connectors at both ends.  Results will be very different if the 3-pin, usually made of brass is badly tarnished.  Also, one can 'tweak' the fuse holder of the connector and make it loose.  During demanding passages, the music will sound BAD!!

How I know?  I ever use those cheap distributor before.  Most of the time, the spring contacts are NOT very tight.  And because of that, I either got noise due to the contact resistance or  music sounded 'suffocated'. ;)
