Wondering if anyone has been successful in connecting the analog out from the soundcard to the power amplifier and to the respective 5.1 or 7.1 speakers? Or the connection could be from the soundcard to a sound processor to power amplifier and to rest of speakers?

Tried to do it but it is difficult to measure the test tone from each of the speaker when the test is done at the sound card via the M-A audio Panel (using Revolution 7.1). With the radio shack sound level meter, the test tone does not create a fix value but rather a range of sometimes 10 to 15 dBA. Maybe I am not doing the right thing.

Any advise is very much appreciated. :(

IMO, i havent tried the analog output on the card but i believe there to be a slight humm noise if using this connection. does ur sound card have digital out? personally i prefer to use the digital (coaxial/optical) out of my creative sound card to a amp. or in ur case an AVR which can decode the 5.1 signals and it should be clearer for stereo too.

Hmmm.. I think the threadstarter's purpose is to not have duplicate functions.

If you have a power amp combo, I don't think you'd have an AVR. Probably a separate processor.

Anyway, though soundcard digital out is typically used, why waste the analog out? Soundcards nowadays can have pretty good analog outputs (e.g. X-Meridien).

I've tried analog output to AVR with no hum. Never tried power amp combo though.

Reading again, Gideon has a signal. Just that it fluctuates a lot.

Not sure what this can be caused by though, unless SPL meter is not capturing properly. Set to slow and fixed position right?

It should work fine to the power amps. My problem was the sound quality was not up to scratch. Some of the new cards with upgraded opamps maybe better. I'm using an Xplosion with no upgrades.

As for the test tone, try putting a DVD in that has the THX setup, instead of running the program. You can use DVE or something similar if you have it. After all that's what you will be using it for, right?

I will try mine again someday, but I've been really busy lately :).

Revolution 7.1 soundcard has digital out but analog with Blu Ray disc would give us higher bit rate of 4,000 plus as compared to only 1,000 plus.

So far, no humming noise when connected to poweramp or sound processor.

Will try the disc. Hopefully, the analog test tone does not fluatuate. If anyone is successful to measure the test tone without fluatuation, please let us know.

Regards.

i think louco has done this before, from analog out to power amps. maybe wait for him to respond.

I think Onkyo makes sound cards that have RCA out?

SO, ANYONE HAS BEEN SUCCESSFUL TO ACHIEVE UNCOMPRESSED AUDIO MUCH BETTER THAN DIGITAL OUT FOR BLU RAY AND HD DVD?

Its not possible because the Studios have told Cyberlink (pretty much the only Blu Ray/HD-DVD software manufacturer currently shipping) to downsample the lossless audio to 48Khz before output over the analog jacks of a soundcard. As a result, it is no better than the SPDIF out.

However, the market hopes that Slysoft, the makers of AnyDVD, which allows one to rip Blu Ray/HD-DVD, will come out with a player that isn't subject to the Studios requirements. Slysoft is located on an island nation that has no copyright laws.

The Studios issue is that there wasn't hardware out there that allowed a secure audio path within Windows that was resistant to hacking (as if anyone is interested in pirating a TrueHD track). That has now arrived in the form of some Realtek hardware that allows the secure path. Consequently, I expect some solution over the next few months that will allow us to stream either MPCM or bitstream TrueHD and DTS-HD MA over HDMI from a PC. However, I wouldn't hold my breath.
