Relax Posted May 24, 2007 Posted May 24, 2007 Hi, Will be renovating my house soon and need surround cable for speaker. Budget still working on it ... (last priority for surround cable) Guess should be btween $2 to $6 region. Have done a search and found threads are 2 or more years old. thanks
Darthfunk Posted May 24, 2007 Posted May 24, 2007 Canare 4S8 should be good enough. Well some people even use fro their fronts. Its $4 per metre IIRC.
petetherock Posted May 24, 2007 Posted May 24, 2007 Welcome bro, Good recommendation, but in case your next question is where. go to LHS in Sim Lim Tower (aka SLT) An alternative, I get my USA OFC silver coated 50m reeel in Hean Lee Radio in Jln Besar Plaza. Get 16g and thicker will be fine, unless you are using some very expensive rear speakers :) Canare 4S8 should be good enough. Well some people even use fro their fronts. Its $4 per metre IIRC.
IwishIwasToneDeaf Posted May 25, 2007 Posted May 25, 2007 I'm running 16awg cables bought from KEC at $1.80/m to my rear satellites.

synthesis1624705793 Posted May 25, 2007 Posted May 25, 2007 I'm using 14awg OFC (probably tin coated) cable bought from UF Technology 3rd fl SLS. Cost only $3/m. You should be able to get discount for 50m. This replaced wimpy 21awg used previously. Size does matter for surround speaker cable. ;)

Correlation between thicker awg vs lenght of speaker cable????
petetherock Posted May 26, 2007 Posted May 26, 2007 Bro Its physics, an issue of conductance and resistance with longer lengths. Wiki explains it pretty well, just search for an extended explanation if you want - too coma inducing to print here :)

Guest queks Posted May 26, 2007 Posted May 26, 2007 I have 1 roll of spare cable at $2.50 per meter. Can IM me if you need :) http://www.monstercable.com/productdisplay.asp?pin=82
Relax Posted May 26, 2007 Author Posted May 26, 2007 Hi queks, thanks for the offer, will take it up once decided. I'm still looking around. thanks
petetherock Posted May 26, 2007 Posted May 26, 2007 I would suggest you buy 10% more than your expect run, in case and loop up some spare. 40m run per speaker, thats a very big room :)
deano Posted May 26, 2007 Posted May 26, 2007 i use canare 4s6 for 3/m at sls 2nd floor. cables are sturdy had a hard time concealing. it really brings out the bass. good for bright speakers.
synthesis1624705793 Posted May 26, 2007 Posted May 26, 2007 so is it important to use thicker awg since I need to run about 40 to 45 m of cable to each surround?? Correlation between thicker awg vs lenght of speaker cable???? Wow 45m for each surround :o Some recommendation of awg size vs length: http://www.roger-russell.com/wire/wire.htm

Relax Posted May 26, 2007 Author Posted May 26, 2007 still a very big room! :P sorry ;D Uhmm, have to run the cable along the wall. How do U guys run your surr cable. underneath the floor or over the ceiling???? underneath the floor tile might save some cable, actually recommended by my contractor.
IwishIwasToneDeaf Posted May 26, 2007 Posted May 26, 2007 Thanks guys ToneDeaf the 16awg cables bought from kec , do they have a brand name? hope u can share! appreciated No brand name, but they're grey in color.
petetherock Posted May 26, 2007 Posted May 26, 2007 Got your cables yet? There are some higher level pros here who may write more I think the WAF and decor factor plays a role too, and ceiling or floor isn't too important. (I run along the floor cos I am lazy :) ) Uhmm, have to run the cable along the wall. Relax Posted May 27, 2007 Author Posted May 27, 2007 Thanks to all for the informations Hi Pete, No not yet... as my contractor have not completed with quotation and like I said this is the lowest priority. have another issue that I'm still working on... see http://www.xtremeplace.com/yabbse/index.php?topic=45209.0 regarding "hiding of cable". Expected renovation will start at end of June.. so cable will be out of sight totally, only a matter of cost.
