some time ago I flash my benq dvd writer firmware to make it dual layer compatible but don't remember need to disable anything. just followed instructions on their website. Are the instructions posted on the maker's website?

Thanks for replying, yes they do post the steps online but they got mention to disable the Intel Ultra-ATA Storage Driver and Intel Application Accelerator. Below are the extracts from the website.

 

This is a Windows-based flash utility. Using "Add or Remove Programs" on the "Control Panel", verify that neither of the following programs are installed on the system. These applications must be un-installed prior to proceeding or the firmware update will fail.

+ Intel Ultra-ATA Storage Driver

+ Intel Application Accelerator

Note: These applications can be reinstalled after the firmware has been updated. The latest files can be found at www.intel.com .

Just try not to run any programs when flashing and disable those firewall and virus scans.... I kena once before when I stupidly flash my burner when burning dvd with another burner... somewhere the pc restart while flashing half-way and the burner cannot work anymore...
