Chowbotak Posted May 22, 2007 Posted May 22, 2007 Right now mine is Little Britain, on dvd, don waste time with the Starworld broadcasts. Crude and vulgar in your face toilet humour, the way I like it! :P
yellowhandman Posted May 22, 2007 Posted May 22, 2007 M*A*S*H not only great comedy, but simply great television - many of the best episodes are totally serious in their anti-war message, but even then there are laughs. others i've really enjoyed : allo allo, coupling.
xiao_vin Posted May 22, 2007 Posted May 22, 2007 i like Friends, but the DVD series are too many to collect
SiriuslyCold Posted May 22, 2007 Posted May 22, 2007 Listen to me carefully, I shall say zis only vonce: I Love 'Allo 'Allo

SiriuslyCold Posted May 23, 2007 Posted May 23, 2007 Trivia quiz: how many episodes of Fawlty Towers were ever made?
SiriuslyCold Posted May 23, 2007 Posted May 23, 2007 no one mentioned "Three's Company" - the show that fueled delinquent dreams of sharing apartments with two babes...
armoury Posted May 23, 2007 Posted May 23, 2007 Trivia quiz: how many episodes of Fawlty Towers were ever made? Not many, something like only 13. Which would be surprising to those used to American shows where 22 eps per season is the norm. Blackadder only has 6 eps per season, 4 seasons for a total of 24. Coupling is similar, though there were some seasons with 9 eps or something like that. And don't forget Yes Minister/Yes Prime Minister. Quality, not quantity... ;D
SiriuslyCold Posted May 23, 2007 Posted May 23, 2007 Yes Minister is awesome. ;D Fawlty Towers has only 12 episodes ever, and it probably cannot be made in todays world. another one.. Are you being served?
armoury Posted May 23, 2007 Posted May 23, 2007 Forgot to mention, Blackadder also has a few specials: The Christmas special, a Roundheads v. Cavaliers special, and the Millienium special that was screened at the Millenium Dome. All available on the superduper box set, which oddly enough was R1.
yellowhandman Posted May 25, 2007 Posted May 25, 2007 Happy days ! i loved the fonz and happy days when i was a kid, but it hasn't aged well. watched some recently on DVD, and it was really quite bad. really good comedies (like M*A*S*H) are able to stand the test of time, and are as funny now as they ever were.
yellowhandman Posted May 25, 2007 Posted May 25, 2007 oh yeah, one more great series that no one has mentioned yet : SPORTS NIGHT. thanks to armoury for introducing it to me! and yes, i still need to return your copy!
armoury Posted May 25, 2007 Posted May 25, 2007 oh yeah, one more great series that no one has mentioned yet : SPORTS NIGHT. thanks to armoury for introducing it to me! and yes, i still need to return your copy! I can't believe that I forgot to mention Sports Night! Probably because this thread was very Brit-centric, and most of the "big" US sitcoms that came to mind, in particular Friends, didn't seem to merit mention here. Though I will also give kudos to Frasier, which was very good when it was on-song. And of course I agree with MASH -- why else would I have the Martinis & Medicine collection...
