following the recent (disturbing for blu-ray buyers like me) trend, the HD-DVD will have slightly more interactivity : picture-in-picture commentary and some kind of interactive game.

After nearly 10 years of DVD collection and viewing, I've grown weary of the "extras".

Why can't Warner just give us the damn movie in high bitrate AVC & multichannel PCM.

actually, i quite agree with you. i've got more DVDs than i can watch, let alone spend time watching the movie, then listening to the commentary while watching the movie again, then watching the extras.

frankly, unless you really really love a movie, do you really need to watch how it was made? the only extras i generally watch are deleted scenes, because those are directly relevant to the movie itself, e.g. revealing parts that were left out.

Totally agree with you! Infact after buying so many collectors edition or special edition i have only watch 2 commentaries. What i really want are deleted scenes and extended versions.

ah yes, deleted scenes and directors' cuts. some films are much better in their extended editions, to the point of making a bad film good, e.g. KINGDOM OF HEAVEN and DAREDEVIL.

of course, some director's cuts just make a boring film even longer and more boring...

That was more a case of "studio mandated cuts made a good film bad", at least re: KOH.  Still haven't seen Daredevil.

And speak for yourself, I'm a sucker for extras.  Whilst I agree commentaries can be a bit OTT (Fight Club and Seven each has 4!), my favourite extra is usually a good making-of documentary.  Which must be a proper making-of, not the "HBO First Look" EPK fluff, which is usually a waste of time.  Just about any documentary on a disc produced by Charlie de Lauzirika would qualify. And "The Beginning"on SW:TPM is a pretty amazing one, more so because it doesn't have any narration (and also because the movie it covers isn't that good...  ;) )
