sty Posted May 17, 2007 Posted May 17, 2007 Hello to all fellow audio expert here. Saw the link in HWZ n is really glad to know this site where there r so much info here for me to read. I have been out of the basic audio scene for more than 7 to 8 years liao due to kids in the house. Recently just re-set my old system up again n really was trying to find some info on any new stuff or ways to improve my listening pleasures. The old system that I set up again comprises of the below equipments. 1) Arcam Delta 290 integrated amp 2) Arcam 5 CD player 3) Arcam 8 tuner 4) Audiovector 1X Floorstanding speakers 5) Tiara Labs interconnects 6) Cant remember the brand of the speaker cable I like the sound very much but still wanna try something else so I just recently brought another secondhand Marantz 7000 integrated Amp to pair with my old Rotel RCD 955 (I think). Still lokking for a set of bookshelf speakers to compliment this setup. Any recommedations here. Btw, the Arcam 290 amp is also secondhand so it does not come with a remote. Any idea where I can buy a remote that works with my Arcam Delta 290 be it new or use? Sorry for the many question with my first post. Thanks in advance for all the advice n comments given. Have a good day to all.
petetherock Posted May 17, 2007 Posted May 17, 2007 Hi bro welcome back to the poison You didn't say how much you want to spend on the speakers and what sort of music, I assume from the list of the equipment it will be less than 1k for the speakers. Usher, MA Bronze or Silver, Mission, Epos, Quads spring to mind. Best to go audition some at Adelphi than to solicit opinions. Then come back with an idea of what sound suits you and the next trip you may want to narrow down to 2-3 choices and bring your amp / cd along Good luck
sty Posted May 17, 2007 Author Posted May 17, 2007 Thanks to petetherock for your recommendations. Always feel very Paiseh to walk into Adelphi shops to audition for speakers. Feel like if audition never buy like very no good. I have seen the Monitor Audio Br2 n is quite interested by the looks n the price is very ok for me. Maybe will just audition for this n buy it if it sounds good. :) As for the poison thing about this hobby is I feel that the cost incur can be quite high to some really into it but I guess the return in terms of good music will more or less makes it so much worthwhile. I nowadays feel so much better cos every night I will spend half an hour or more to listen to some music to smooth down my daytime stress from work. :)
2100 Posted May 17, 2007 Posted May 17, 2007 Yeah, nowadays so stressful. Though the economy looks good, but i believe cases in which the boss pays the salary for 1 and expects the work of 2 is still prevalent. Some biz also not doing that well. Unless money really easy come one.... Have to stop and take a breather, live and let live. Anyway, the biz in Adelphi isn't that good, i am sure if you take a half day off and spend your 6 hours there listening, absolutely nobody will make you feel unwelcomed. Of coz, check out stuff within your reach lar. Really nobody there one. If not, make it a Saturday. Now never buy nvm, KIV, next time tio Toto or you make a home run in your business then can whack! I believe in feng shui lun liu zhuan one, and karma. If u dun listen more, how to know what kinds of stuff is out there, and how to advance. ;D Those who are really into this, have 5 or 6 digit systems, already would be pretty satisfied and won't be changing. It is you, who are the potential customer. :)
weibchen Posted May 17, 2007 Posted May 17, 2007 I also very paiseh to go audition, moreover i'm a young chap, the salesman sure "see me no up" but have to be thickskin and just pester them.
DanDon Posted May 17, 2007 Posted May 17, 2007 Hi! sty I was like you before felt paiseh to walk into the shops to audition. Nowadays, i'll walk in and ask for audition. I find it's necessary to audition whether it's speaker or other equipment. I agree with you this hobby is poisonous as I've been poisoned :'(. Afterall, I find it's worthwhile as a form of relaxation to de-stress from works and an entertainment (my young daughter will dance when she hears music ;D) for the family. Happy hunting ;)
hifiluv Posted May 17, 2007 Posted May 17, 2007 for audition, go with a friend if u can, then will not feel ackward. with regard to salemanship, i think most shops in Alephi are ok, except one or two with some attitude which u will get to know eventually.. agree with Weibchen n Dandon, u need to actually see the equipment in action, then u re in a better position to make a decision, even then the setup/pairing components may not be the same, but it better than buying off the shelf, unless u re bidding fm ebay... ;D actually the fun begins when u re matching components..... ha ha.....
sty Posted May 17, 2007 Author Posted May 17, 2007 Thanks guys for the feedback here. I just drop by Adelphi yesterday afternoon again n as it was raining, the place is pretty deserted. Look around to see afew more possibilities on speakers that i like. Saw quite alot of interesting things like speaker wire n interconnect. So tempted to buy straight away. Need to workout a budget for this starting from next month :'(.
