htfreak Posted May 11, 2007 Posted May 11, 2007 Finally we are getting a date for the launch of Sony's first gen BD player but is it too late for the show now that 2nd gen sets are already appearing.
c7221624705751 Posted May 12, 2007 Posted May 12, 2007 jeff the sony is also second gen :) see page 24 of the Sony mid-year sale catalogue. It's called "BDP-S1E", same as the European one. And it says it does "DD+ and DD TrueHD". The 1st gen does not. And according to this European press release, it does CD too. http://www.sony-europe.com/PageView.do?section=en_EU_Press&pressrelease=1172517899889&site=odw_en_EU&page=PressReleaseDetail The price should be S$1600 also I think. (page 20 has a package price, 46" X LCD + BDP-S1E + unknown HDMI receiver + complete 5.1 speaker set is only 10k)
desray Posted May 12, 2007 Posted May 12, 2007 I thought there's going to be a sub $1K range of 2nd Gen Bluray Player coming soon this year?
Genesis Posted May 13, 2007 Posted May 13, 2007 I thought there's going to be a sub $1K range of 2nd Gen Bluray Player coming soon this year? Correct, the US$600 Sony BDP-S300 should be out by September this year.
Phil1624705739 Posted May 13, 2007 Posted May 13, 2007 Correct, the US$600 Sony BDP-S300 should be out by September this year. Wrong.. I seriously doubt these sub-1K players will be available here anytime soon. Think 2008 and later for a realistic ETA. Phil
Genesis Posted May 13, 2007 Posted May 13, 2007 Wrong.. I seriously doubt these sub-1K players will be available here anytime soon. Think 2008 and later for a realistic ETA. Ok Phil. I wasn't referring to Singapore, but in the US it's supposed to be launched "in the summer" which with the inevitable delays I was thinkin' Sept.
