Think it's CGI and not piano black... but still looks good.

But when are they going to put in full 16 million colour TFT touch screen LCD screens? It's not exactly new technology and should not cost too much would it?

Actually have seen a number of high end AV receivers/pre-amps with a decent TFT screen before. The main purpose isn't for viewing, but enough for the users to navigate menus etc without turning on projectors sometimes.

Yeah, I know about the high end but mainstream AVRs don't.

These days TFT panels are everywhere and can even be found in cheap MP4 players. Instead, the AVRs still have stone age fluorescent display panels.

Personally, I'd prefer a more discrete and less glaring screen :)

a. it's just downright distracting to have another light source in a darkened home theater room

b. additional video circuitry often adds more noise to the audio signals which may not be something that u want.

If I had an HDMI splitter, I might want to put a small TFT monitor so I can navigate my audio sources without turning on the projector. But for regular TVs (plasma/LCDs etc), this might not be an issue. Problem is finding an HDCP based small monitor. Smallest I think is 19 inch which wud be troublesome to put in a rack. I guess I just to find a way to put both my LCDTV and my projector in the living room, so as not to worry abt this issue.

It IS piano black:

All four of the Pioneer Elite A/V receivers are custom-installation as a result of the following features:

Multi-room, multi-source capabilities allowing a single receiver to serve as the entertainment centerpiece of multiple rooms

XM and Sirius Satellite Radio programming for secondary zone

RS232 port for PC and control connectivity (VSX-91TXH, VSX-92TXH, VSX-94TXH)

LCD preset/learning remote with preset multi-operation control

Synchronized high end home theater design with glossy black cosmetics

Think it's CGI and not piano black... but still looks good.

i don't mind stone age fluorescent display panels as long as cost is kept low. furthermore the more complicated the machinery, the most easier for it to break down.

Agree agree.... de less complicated de better ... I prefer simple and totally bulletproof

Unfortunately tis models dont look cheap ...

Oh well theres always used ones in maybe 6 , 7 years time...

you'll need a 7.1 set of piano black speakers to go with those... ;D

You'll also need piano black SVS subwoofers. ;D

Not trying to put any dampers on anything, but if I am reading AVS correctly, they claim that to get a fully decoded Dolby TrueHD and DTS HD MA through HDMI today

a. you need a correctly specified HDMI 1.3 player to output TrueHD and DTS HD MA bitstream

b. you need a correctly specified HDMI 1.3 AV amplifier with TrueHD and DTS HD MA decoders

I mention correctly specified because HDMI 1.3 does not fully specify minimum requirements and you can have HDMI 1.3 spec players/receivers which do not have these features.

For example, the only HDMI 1.3 BR players today DO NOT output DTS HD MA on HDMI.

I mean, WTF!??

probably because most if not all the soundtracks that will use the hidef audio will be mastered with advanced mastering, and thus require the player to decode and output PCM over HDMI

didn't notice the ICEPower logo on the front... me want ;D ;D

LX90 only though :P

Ohhh... ICEPower... didn't see. Me also want (but no $$ :'() ;D

Funny, it's ICEPower-ed but why is it so big?

If the TrueHD or DTS MA decoding is taking place inside the player, assuming the player has the necessary decoder, then it's  lossless LPCM (fully decoded) out to the AVR.  The player doesn't have to be HDMI 1.3 compatible for this to work, but it certainly needs the decoder.  So once the LPCM signal goes out to the AVR over HDMI (1.1 or greater), the AVR has nothing to decode, the PCM goes to the AVR for DSP and then DAC to the speakers.  Actually, it's not necessary for HDMI 1.3 at all in this example.  So, it seems that 1.3, aside from perhaps the benefit of audio sync, isn't all it's cracked up to be.

But as we know, there are no players that can decode DTS MA (at least our XA2 will decode TrueHD internally).  I don't think the PS3 will do either, but correct me if I'm wrong.  I'm still looking around for a BD player.  I understand that the "lossless" PCM audio tracks available on most BD discs are really downconverted 24bit/48khz master audio to 16/48 so not truly lossless after all.  Since BD discs have more storage capacity than HD DVD, why is this the case?  You'd think studios like Disney and Fox would use compressed TrueHD or DTS MA exclusively and get Dolby & DTS to ensure the player manufacturers' have the proper decoders to get full 24/48 or 24/96 results.  Hence, no digital bitstream 1.3 digital rights issues, everything takes place inside the player.

Exactly my point!! It seems the DTS HD MA decoders in these new AV amps are going to waste.

To output DTS HD MA bitstream, you need a HDMI 1.3 player. Unfortunately, none of the BR HDMI 1.3 players CAN output DTS HD MA bitstream!!
