Walau,

Since I saw no vents on it I assumed it dont suffer from heat buildup and even stacked something on top of it...

Must go back and check tis ...

I think this is a known issue with Oppo players, and has been mentioned in some of the reviews quoted at Oppo's website.  I don't think it is a big issue just that good ventilation will definitely help.  Due to this, I keep my Oppo 981 in its own rack, with nothing else in it. :)

The whole idea is to allow ventilation all around the device itself. Try not to place anything on top of the Player even though there's no ventilation vents on top of the Player (usually is the case).

And leave at 3" to 5" allowance for the heat to dissipate properly. Heat is the greatest enemy for all Electronic goods.

Aiyah, airconned not counted lah..:)

Its not the aircon that really matters.... it is the airflow around the AV equipment.  With proper placement and setup, you don't need aircon to maintain a good operating environment, especially for the Oppo that runs hot.

My Bose system and my older Pioneer DV-S737 also runs rather hot, but not as hot as my Oppo DV-981.

Hi,

Well, if de aircon is not on (when de weather is cooler), my oppo doesnt run hot, well, at least not as hot as you describe( too hot to touch) anyway... FWIW it is on de top most shelf with no walls and top so ventilation is good...

Cheers
