Just migrated my samsung 850 dvdp with HDMI to my bedroom to use with LCD. Anyone can advise which would be a better buy between Denon 1730 and Oppo 970? I am assuming both are in the 200-300 budget range. Thanks in advance
SiriuslyCold Posted April 16, 2007 Posted April 16, 2007 1730 is not a universal player is it? (doesn't play SACD/DVD-A) does the 1730 play HDCDs? If you don't want to play these formats -perhaps it would make no difference, although the Denon build quality looks superior

Thanks in advance ah must ask those with 1730 mah. i was also contemplating between this 2 models. i got my 1730 last year, $238 i think... the only diff is it doesnt have HDCD and SACD playback like what cold mentioned. but it has got local warranty which i felt safer. note: that time 981 and 970 havent got MO yet... so i might have got the oppo instead. esle it performs quite well with 720p and 1080i.

I hav compared (in stereo), wif a dedicated Marantz cd-19 cdp (new almost $700), i was surprised that it sounds as gd...... Take note : i use diz set solely for HT (5.1 too).......... For Pic wise(HDMI) , i got no complains..... Still using it ,so far so gd , no prob, won't change for anything else....... I got d set from X-Audio ,for aftersale , i muz say i trust these guyz ;) Hope my input helps :)

Would i expect a marked improved video quality in 1930 as compared to 1730? Anyone would like to sell their Oppo 970?....perhaps upgrading to 981?

Anyone would like to sell their Oppo 970?....perhaps upgrading to 981? hi, i got the 1730 as i was on a budget. my frenz got the 1930 at $480. i would say its double the price. PQ was so much better of coz. 1930 also comes with video off circuit so can be use for pure stereo too. as everyone here has mentioned both the oppo and denon has their own special features. price wise they are also quite close.
FookLai Posted April 18, 2007 Posted April 18, 2007 I think you should try to look for Oppo 971HD if video performance is your concern, it has received numerous awards for its upscaling capability to 720p. One of the best around and for sure is best bang for the money. Do a search in the forum and nets then you will know. I myself have one and it really looks impressive on my 720p sharp, very happy with it. Wait for people who want to go for 1080p path and sell their 971H ;D
