astro75 Posted April 13, 2007 Posted April 13, 2007 Hi,all bro. Thought of upgrade my denon a/v 2600 model which had serve me the past 10years.(made in Japan) Looking for average at $800 usage:mostly for watching war/action movies. For music listening is slow, smooth ,vocal music. New Bird... May all bro advice ;D
petetherock Posted April 14, 2007 Posted April 14, 2007 Hi bro Welcome I notice no one has answered you, there are some threads on $800 AV amps, just look up the 'I got 1-1.5k" to spend kind of threads in the search column. There are plenty of AV amps capable of a decent job of exciting you in HT, but at 800, its music capablities will be modest. Why not read them and let us know what you like. Narrow down your choices and Audition Before you ask for more opinions. The final judge will be your wallet and your ears.. Good luck
astro75 Posted April 14, 2007 Author Posted April 14, 2007 Hi,thanks for your advice. At last, saw a beam of light to me. Thanks for you reply :)
SiriuslyCold Posted April 14, 2007 Posted April 14, 2007 I thought Pete would have mentioned Marantz :) everything is in the thread he pointed to though
YANG Posted April 14, 2007 Posted April 14, 2007 If your priority is on movie presentation, my 1st suggestion will be the DENON or YAMAHA (SHERWOOD is the best for the movie presentation category, i don't think you can get SHERWOODs more easily than before) A/Vs for HT setup. Since you've mentioned light music(orchestral, vocal) my second suggestion for you is just like the others, MARANTZ is the one to go for. But suggest that you make some setting on the source option on the amp, so that when you select the source for movie presentation, it won't sound so "bass lacking" to you...
petetherock Posted April 14, 2007 Posted April 14, 2007 I am biased toward M.. But since the threads I allude to already are chocked full of my bias, I reckon I will not repeat it here :) However I am not sure lower end M are that musical, and being a Denon 2600 owner before, thats not a bad amp, the expectation will be higher. Your 800 is a downgrade actually, and you may wish to consider a budget of about 12xx, as that opens up the choices to the Marantz SR 7001 or Cambridge Audio 640R, see reviews in the forum. BTW avoid following WhXX Lo Fi like the only truth, just because this magazine is widely available. I thought Pete would have mentioned Marantz :) everything is in the thread he pointed to though

Actually, don mind paying slightly more above $1k,my friend mention to me Marantz also, maybe will try out next visit to KEC,waiting for the velodyne CHT8R to arrive, which the only thing I don had now..
