desray Posted April 13, 2007 Posted April 13, 2007 Hey you guys want to be a pioneer promoting HDTV in Singapore...MDA is at present promoting HDTV akin to a US entertainment gig - Something like famous in 30 secs some sort of thing... Take a look here: http://showtime.hdtv.org.sg/hidef/batches/index.jsp Hilarious! Here's the link to some local artiste endorsement on HDTV drive! http://showtime.hdtv.org.sg/hidef/cele.jsp ;D ;D ;D
bloob Posted April 14, 2007 Posted April 14, 2007 Hilarious.... and quite daft. Have they run out of ideas so quickly to promote HDTV? and frankly how does this song and dance thingy extol the benefits and advantages of HDTV, I fail to see the point. ::) Still waiting to see some spark from MDA on the HDTV promotion. :-\
yellowhandman Posted April 14, 2007 Posted April 14, 2007 if MDA really wants to kick start HDTV, they should find some way to subsidize the acquisition of some decent content by SCV or one of the other new content providers. football, other sports, first-run top US dramas...that is what is going to get people to truly appreciate HD...i've seen some samples of NBA basketball broadcast in HD...that is what HD was made for... then again, as i said in another thread, the average VCD-watching singaporean clearly doesn't give two hoots about pictureq quality, especially if it costs thousands of dollars to get an HD-ready TV.

Absolutely agree. No one (OK, hardly anyone) watches locally-produced English content anyway, so why bother? Better off spending less on that and more on acquiring HD versions of stuff already being broadcast. And as observed, the average heartlander who watches Chinese content is happy with VCDs, never mind DVDs, so HD production of Chinese dramas would be wasted as well.
yellowhandman Posted April 16, 2007 Posted April 16, 2007 although fiona xie in HD is not exactly a bad idea... then again, with HD you might realise how much makeup she is wearing or whatever.
botaky Posted April 16, 2007 Posted April 16, 2007 MDA's hands are tied. They can't compel MediaCorp to go HD since it's a commercial decision. And as far as MediaCorp is concerned, how would going HD contribute to their bottom line? These questions need to be answered. MediaCorp will upgrade their infrastructure to HD sooner or later. But to do so ahead of their equipment renewal cycle will cost money that they can't justify. As for StarHub, the "killer" HD channels that'll help promote HD take-up are probably ESPN and HBO. But StarHub is at the mercy of their content providers. Although ESPN and HBO have already launched HD channels in the US, their Singapore-based operations probably aren't ready to do so. And there's nothing StarHub, or we, can do about it except hope and wait.
bloob Posted April 17, 2007 Posted April 17, 2007 I've seen Fiona Xie in real life and she doesn't need much make up to look hot. I'd much rather see Jean Danker or Nadya in HD ;D The reason for the trial was for the content providers and broadcasters time to setup, test and get ready. If they are still not ready then I don't know what is taking them so long. In the meanwhile, the HD ready consumers can only curse and wait. One can only watch so much wildlife in HD before they become one.
