Guys

I am looking for a compact set of 5.1 speakers for my A/V receiver Yamaha RV440. I wonder whether there is any recommendation for a budget of $500 - 600. Is the Tannoy EFX5.1 good? What is the price like?

How about this:

Mission M3c1 (center - satin silver)

Mission M70  (front - satin silver)

Yamaha flat speaker (rear - silver)

Yamaha YST-SW320 subwoofer

@ 600sgd (negotiable).

Sorry, where is a good place to hunt for mission speakers?

Mission set you can get at KEC, Adelphi. Now got M3c1 and M30 models only. Each about 300sgd.

Im selling this set I posted.

Hi bro

Maybe giving more info will help bros here give you info.

Room size?

You don't want bookshelf speakers, so floorstanders? Or "lifestyle sizes minis?

A PSB intro 5.1 sells for $6xx at Merdeka - SLS

Mission M30i X 4 plus centre is not bad.

Try Alpha Audio and KEC at Adelphi for ideas.

Bear in mind your $600 budget for an entire 5.1 system doesn't give you that many choices.

Good luck bro.

Hi

I dont really like bookshelf. I wonder is there any recommendation based on a set of ready made 5.1?

Hi

I intend to use it for my living room. In general, I only watch movies. I prefer mini series. I can stretch my budget to $800 or $1k if needed. I am also considering Jama A102 series. Seems to be small, compact and pricewise, it is reasonable. I wonder whether it is good

Size matters, the sound from a small centre will sound - small

May I suggest auditioning some of these mini lifestyle sized setups first, rather than wait for opinions?

That way you get an idea of what they can do, then you se if you stil want that kind of sound.

Paradigm Atom, JBL control series and Monitor Audio Radius are other choices to consider

Audition a few first for an idea and you can find out more prices and post them here.

Hi

The Q acoustic 1010 looks great! I wonder KEC carries them? I gg down to take a look tomorrow. Today I tested the sound of Jamo A102. Sound fine to me. Looking thru a few more sets before I make my decision.

Guys, if u have anything more compact than the Q acoustic 1010, pls let me know. Thanks for all the information!

Cheers!

if you notice the quality of the binding posts for the q-acoustics speakers, the contoured cabinet, etc, $300 a pair seems quite ok for a small room. but most importantly i wonder how do they sound ?

pete good suggestion. I'd also go as far as getting the front 3 and a cheap pair of whatever just for surround effect - you can find cheap pairs of satellite speakers at Yahoo or eBay sg auctions

Hi guys

Thanks for all the valuable information. I have manage to get my 5.1 speakers after listening to a few systems so I will share some of my listening experience: -

1) Jamo A102

Sound reasonable ok if u just play home theatre. However, I tested this side by side with Dtech Cinema Pro60 at KEC. Notice the major difference in terms of music listening.

2) Q acoustic 1010

Sound good in home theatre and music but nothing to compare with in the same shop. However too bulky for my liking. Out of the 4 system i tried, this has the most bulky design.

3) Definitive technology Cinema Pro60

Sounds good. Definately worth buying but at $1200, it is over my budget. For those who are keen, you can also wait for the Cinema Pro600 which is expected to be available to distributor in July 07 according to Definitive tech in US.

4) Paradigm Cinema90

I try this out at Asia Sound. Basically, it sound quite nice, the size and the budget just suit me. In the end, got this unit.

Sorry, I am still considered a novice thus cant really provide a lot of listening experience. Hope the above info is useful for newcomers.

Lastly, a big thanks to everyone who provide all the valuable suggestions.
