SiriuslyCold Posted April 8, 2007 Posted April 8, 2007 does anyone have the coming matches for Man U and Chelsea - now that ManU has bungled the lead can Chelsea win it? http://youtube.com/watch?v=eQnrBqC63w4 3rd or 4th doesn't matter much in the big scheme of things - there's still a CL place although theres an extra qualifying match at the beginning of the season for #4. Arse's results (3 straight losses?) look like they are in free fall ... perhaps the kids are leaving school early and missed half a million chances to put the game away against the Hammers
yellowhandman Posted April 8, 2007 Posted April 8, 2007 United 17 Apr vs Sheff Utd 21 Apr vs Boro 25/26 Apr Champs League Semi 1st leg 28 Apr at Everton 2/3 May Champs League Semi 2nd leg 5 May at Man City 9 May at Chelsea 13 May vs West Ham Chelsea 18 Apr at West Ham 22 Apr at Newcastle 25/26 Apr Champs League Semi 1st leg 28 Apr vs Bolton 2/3 May Champs League Semi 2nd leg 6 May at Arsenal 9 May vs United 13 May vs Everton The title race is definitely wide open now, but Chelsea still need to beat United at Stamford Bridge AND hope that United slip up in one of their other matches, because United's goal difference is insurmountably superior. Of course, Chelsea also can't afford to slip up themselves. A draw in the Stamford Bridge game would probably be enough to ensure United the trophy, IMHO. But both United and Chelsea have tough games just days before that match - United at City and Chelsea at Arsenal. Interestingly, Chelsea's game against Arsenal is one day later, so they'll have one day less rest for the big clash. Also, after their respective FA Cup semis next week, both United and Chelsea play two games in four days in mid-April. United's are both at home (Sheff Utd, Boro), while Chelsea play both away (West Ham, Newcastle). I think there'll be another twist then, and Chelsea's two games are clearly tougher. Of either or both teams progress in Europe, there will also be Champs League semi-finals to be factored in, although the above fixture wouldn't change. The fixture congestion would probably favour Chelsea.
dbchoong Posted April 8, 2007 Posted April 8, 2007 Man U will win, lah. They are 3 points ahead with a highly superior goal difference. I can't see Man U stumbling against any of their opposition (none top 4 except Chelsea). Chelsea still have to play 2 top 4 teams (Man U, Arsenal) and champs league hopeful Bolton. And teams like Newcastle which blows hot and cold can surprise. :)
silencer13 Posted April 8, 2007 Posted April 8, 2007 does anyone have the coming matches for Man U and Chelsea - now that ManU has bungled the lead can Chelsea win it? It's begining to look more interesting, but I seriously doubt Chelsea can win it. Like they say, it's United's to lose. Even though I don't like ManU, I have to say they have been pretty consistent and do play exciting football. Barring a minor miracle, this is United's year. *bleah!* 3rd or 4th doesn't matter much in the big scheme of things - there's still a CL place although theres an extra qualifying match at the beginning of the season for #4. Arse's results (3 straight losses?) look like they are in free fall ... perhaps the kids are leaving school early and missed half a million chances to put the game away against the Hammers It looks like Arsenal has already given up on the season. If you watched last night's game, they showed NO determination at all, looked like they already threw in the towel. I don't think they even won a single 50-50 ball. Most of the players looked like they were just trying to stay un-injured for the coming summer holidays. Very disappointed in them.
domho8 Posted April 8, 2007 Posted April 8, 2007 Everton & Bolton are hot on the heels of Arsenal. If Arsenal continues to slip, Everton or Bolton may catch them. ;D
SiriuslyCold Posted April 8, 2007 Author Posted April 8, 2007 silencer, I dunno. thought Arsenal wasted a hatful of chances to put the game away in the first half, then another hatful in the second. I'm talking sombreros here... not some puny french cap beret. Everton is a potential banana skin for United. Boro? hmm Perhaps if both don't make it to the CL semis...
yellowhandman Posted April 8, 2007 Posted April 8, 2007 Everton is a potential banana skin for United. Boro? hmm if boro turns out to be a banana skin and united slip up there, the boro players will probably complain that it was really a dive by ronaldo... ;D ;D ;D
SiriuslyCold Posted April 8, 2007 Author Posted April 8, 2007 just watching the Arse match again... it was also Green's Day wasn't it the boro players will probably complain that it was really a dive by ronaldo... It'll be a first, for sure... ;D
silencer13 Posted April 9, 2007 Posted April 9, 2007 silencer, I dunno. thought Arsenal wasted a hatful of chances to put the game away in the first half, then another hatful in the second. I'm talking sombreros here... not some puny french cap beret. I agree, they wasted a lot of chances and Green was very solid. It's just that I find that their challenges were lacking any bite. You know what I mean - if you watch most Arsenal games, people like Fabregas, Hleb, Rosicky, Gilberto, Eboue, Glichy usually go in fighting for the ball and giving their 100% for the 50-50 challenges. This game, I saw a lot of times where the Arsenal player would pull out of the challenge, probably afraid to get injured.
SiriuslyCold Posted April 9, 2007 Author Posted April 9, 2007 I guess its hard to motivate them when the season ended last month ... although if Bolton had held on to their lead at Everton they would have taken #4 on another note, at 4-1 up against Pompey Watford fans were singing "Bring on United!" *LOL* ;D
silencer13 Posted April 9, 2007 Posted April 9, 2007 Another one bites the dust.... this time they hardly even created any chances. At this rate, 5th place is very likely. Even 6th *shudder* is a possibility.

Sure they can pass, and very well too. But if the ball don't hit the back of the net, then there is a problem to patch. Can't forget a game when Baptista had the chance to shoot and yet can pass to Fabregas. You can guess as much what happened next.

Is that a new development for the 2007/08 season? This season there was no difference, third-place Liverpool and fourth-place Arsenal both started in the 3rd qualifying round of the ECL, i.e. just one tie to get past to enter the ECL proper. I've been trying to find the rules for the 2007/08 season but they aren't on UEFA's website yet.
f_spider Posted April 11, 2007 Posted April 11, 2007 The way Arsenal's Gilberto & Baptista plays, looks anything but BRAZILIAN :-\
silencer13 Posted April 11, 2007 Posted April 11, 2007 The way Arsenal's Gilberto & Baptista plays, looks anything but BRAZILIAN :-\ Haha, you are very right. I always felt that Gilberto has lousy dribbling skills and worse passing skills. Very un-Brazillian.
