ymchai Posted March 24, 2007 Posted March 24, 2007 I'm thinking of getting the Pioneer PDP-427 but had heard comments that it may not be so good for TV viewing. Just want to seek you opinion as to what TV I should get for my mom who watches mostly free-to-air channels and the Hallmark channel on cable. Which display should I get for this type of viewing patterns (95% TV, 5% DVD). Thanks for your help!
bloob Posted March 26, 2007 Posted March 26, 2007 Actually the general consensus is just the opposite.... Plasma is better for watching TV. But don't take my word for it... go to the megastores and ask to compare TV vs DVD. They can set it up for you if you ask them nicely.
siatc Posted March 26, 2007 Posted March 26, 2007 As I understand, plasma screen is quite reflective. I actually like to get one, but my living have afternoon sun. sigh...

lwm99 Posted March 26, 2007 Posted March 26, 2007 If you have direct sun and don't plan to do anything about it (like having a curtain, etc.), then ANY TV will look bad.
bloob Posted March 28, 2007 Posted March 28, 2007 I was at a show room one afternoon looking at the Pioneer 507 plasma display, and there happened to be afternoon sun falling across the wall where the panel was mounted. The whole wall was reflecting the sun except for the panel which continued to show the DVD playing without reflection, and showing off its excellent PQ. All I can say is whatever anti-reflective layers Pioneer is using for its plasma panels .... it works very well.
