Hi, got my PS3 finally and tested Tears of the Sun in PCM 5.1 mode. The 8001 displays Multi Ch 5.1 + D- Ex and the usual 5.1 lights up. I checked all speakers and the sound is 7.1. Guess at least this proves that 5.1 PCM can be matrixed to 7.1 using D-EX mode. Most prob it is still 48khz tho but not that my ears can really pick it up.

May I know how you connect your PS3 to your AV amp. HDMI or digital cable?

Yo! Bro zapp, how goes the PS3 experience??? managed to dwnload the GT HD and Formula 1 demo. The GT rocks!!! So does Resistance! Too bad, I don't have a HDMI receiver yet. Genji is so-so but guess you can't complain for $1.

You are right abt the registration and the PS store. I find the lack of a virtual keyboard to be quite frustrating, making you resort to the phone interface to key in all yr stats. The other thing which irks me is that you can't play games or do other stuff whilst you are downloading (PS3 early adopters, pls enlighten me if there is a way)

dunno not much time to mess around as i went back to office after the so called launch lol. Picked up to BR titles from Jeff and went back only to do system update once i booted up lol.

Tonite will have to try out Crank and see if i get the LPCM issues that other are facing. Most prob i will :p

No time to even load ONE game lol...watched the demo GT HD Movie only. haha even my wife said - wah lau - i.e the graphics are SOLID.

Confirm need to get a USB keyboard w long wire or a wireless one...punching in info using the controller is siong. Get the BR remote by the way. Its quite good and non directional

PS3 LPCM6.1 + 8001 = 5.1 only

- SIIIIIGGGGHHHHH -

I thought I tested this before liao. Need to wait for the upcoming firmware patches to see if this will be solved.

But you can enable EX/ES decoding on the 8001 to get 6.1, just dunno if it is discrete or matrix decoding.

Have you done any tests to see if the 10dB LFE problem exists on the 8001?

Try this on yr PS3. Take a BR with Dolby Digital 5.1 (basic, not Plus).

Go to the Dashboard and under BR settings, toggle HDMI audio between Bitstream and (M)PCM and see if there is a difference in bass levels.

:)

can will try that out but how do u activate the EX/ES thru LPCM as i get "incompatible" when i try to engage them.

I can't remember which buttons I pressed. Clarence from KEC was helping me, and we managed to activate the rear back channel by using one of the buttons (or was it DPLIIx?)
