Guest francis woo Posted March 6, 2007 Posted March 6, 2007 I received the XA2 last night and is in two minds whether to use coaxial or optical out, pcm or bitstream setting!! Current owners of XA2, pls advise preferred option...Thanks
Doggie Howser Posted March 6, 2007 Posted March 6, 2007 Ideal 1. Use HDMI to AV HDMI 1.1+ amp and set audio to Auto (this will get the XA2 to decode TrueHD/DD+ etc and output Linear/Multi PCM) Next best thing 2. Coax/optical, no difference - set to Bitstream
Guest francis woo Posted March 6, 2007 Posted March 6, 2007 Tks Doggie. My avr has no hdmi and I have read so many complaints of very low lfe thru' the 5.1 analog version that deter me from tyring it out.

Guest francis woo Posted March 6, 2007 Posted March 6, 2007 I have the Pioneer AX-5 which I can manually adjust the lfe to compensate but isn't it gonna be a hassle when you need to adjust each time you switch from HD to SD DVD and CD!!

I just use 2 different memory settings to toggle on my amp. If you use optical/coax digital with bitstream you won't be getting the best audio possible in most HD DVDs which come with Dolby TrueHD (lossless) and DD+. You will get a downgraded DD signal
Guest francis woo Posted March 6, 2007 Posted March 6, 2007 Okay. I will give it try. So far, have the machine given you any problems e.g. lip syn; studders; can't play sudden discs, etc., as reported in the AVS forum!!
Doggie Howser Posted March 6, 2007 Posted March 6, 2007 So far, had the odd freeze when powering off.. but seems to be gone with new firmware. I think all new players including the PS3 will have the odd niggling problem
Guest francis woo Posted March 7, 2007 Posted March 7, 2007 I tried a coupl of sd dvds and cds last night with coax out bitstream and i am happy with the sound. Will go analog out when I get the hd-dvds from amazon. The sd dvds really shine when upscaled by this Tosh. Picture was sharper and more 3 dimensional, much much better than my previous Pioneer 757i player. Can't wait to try out the hd-dvds.
tsammyc Posted March 7, 2007 Posted March 7, 2007 Like Doggie said, there are two buttons on the Yamaha's 2700 remote that switch between memory one and memory two, so its simple to toggle between the two. Strangely, I've been using the +10 dB lfe on some old 2 channel Jazz CDs under PLIIx with some great effect.
