cmk Posted February 21, 2007 Posted February 21, 2007 Hi all This may have been discussed before, but just wanted an update on what's recommended for 10-12m run of HDMI cable? Also any recommendation for installers?
eggz Posted February 21, 2007 Posted February 21, 2007 For that length, best to get something that is 22AWG like those from Monoprice. I have a 12m 24AWG Better Cables, it's black with these markings: E119932 AWM 20276 80C 30V VW-1, apparently a Taiwanese manufactured OEM... It's able to pass 1080p at 60Hz, when driven with an IscanHD, PS3, Oppo 971HD to a Sony Ruby, but it didn't work with a Denon 3930 and DVI connection from a Dell notebook dock. With a cheapy HDMI switch that has equalization, everything now works with this cable.
eggz Posted February 21, 2007 Posted February 21, 2007 I got the BetterCables from Millenium. But BetterCables have a new range and no longer sell this model. You might want to scout around SLS or SLT for HDMI cables with the same markings, but I won't recommend this cable, I believe it's right on the edge of passing 1080p at 60Hz, I think you should try to do the following, since 12m is quite long: Get a 22AWG from Monoprice or go with a tested and reliable solution like the SuperBooster cables from Gefen: http://www.gefen.com/kvm/cables/hdmicables.jsp#hdmisb The 50ft superbooster is nice as it doesn't require any additional power. You can contact Team108 who are the official Gefen dealers in Singapore: http://www.team108.com/ Give them a call, they are quite nice and helpful. The price of the 50ft superbooster is actually pretty OK.
velocity1624705768 Posted February 21, 2007 Posted February 21, 2007 I am using the tin-plated 15m 22AWG cable from Monoprice and it tested ok between the Tosh A2 and Epson PJ. Some other user have found some problems with diff players. My advice however is to get the silver plated one instead of the tin-plated if you want to be more safe.
