khewa Posted February 15, 2007 Posted February 15, 2007 seems that the Used market for receivers in Singapore is pretty quiet. I'm looking for a receiver with pre outs and in Echoloft, i've seen very, very few receivers for sale, mostly cables and speakers. With the amount of activity in this forum, I would have thought a lot people are changing their receivers on a frequent basis. Any suggestions on where to get used receivers ? I've tried Echoloft and Singnet classifieds, pickings are slim.

I've tried Echoloft and Singnet classifieds, pickings are slim. I was actually thinking of getting a used receiver when I was looking into a HT system last year and faced the same problem. My view is that there's very little incentive for people to upgrade their AVRs now. There really hasn't been any major developments on the AVR front for the last 2-3 years (imo since DTS! :) ). Maybe things will improve after HDMI 1.3 comes out and people want to sell off their 1.1s and 1.2s. For eg, while I know that my current SR8001 has problems with some 7.1 sources, its not an issue for me at all cos I don't even have 7.1 speakers. Not intending to anytime soon cos my living room is not likely to benefit from it. That said, some AVRs do appear on Echoloft and over here. Just keep an eye out for them. Most of them are rather old though.
armoury Posted February 15, 2007 Posted February 15, 2007 Ask the shops themselves. They often "buy" second-hand receivers from people upgrading, and sell them on.
DJQ Posted February 15, 2007 Posted February 15, 2007 go cash converters... i last saw lots of old AVRs...
petetherock Posted February 15, 2007 Posted February 15, 2007 I don't suggest you buy an AV amp more than 2 gen ago, unless its the amp you want, the technology is moving fast. As for the power amp section, caps need replacement every 10yrs or so. Its a good idea to look for just run out models, which will be cheaper if you don't mind the technology curve.
dbchoong Posted February 15, 2007 Posted February 15, 2007 go cash converters... i last saw lots of old AVRs... Uh, I don't think that's a good option. I've been there a few times (Toa Payoh & AMK) and all I saw were really crappy old stuff. Worse, the price is not even cheap. The classifieds here, or echoloft or maybe even in yahoo.sg auctions are better places to look around.
bluetang927 Posted February 15, 2007 Posted February 15, 2007 1) Seller - Want to sell more than half price -> Because amp still in good condition and less than few yrs. 2) Buyer - Want to buy less than half price -> Because not worth it to buy greater than half price as new model come up every few months At the end seller rather keep it for second/third/fourth system rather than sell away.

Well it all depends on the model, age, condition etc. I have seen quite a number of receivers sold for a decent price even for the newer models!
khewa Posted February 16, 2007 Author Posted February 16, 2007 from the comments here, I guess it's the luck of the draw for the buyer. I blame the slim pickings on our small population of 4 million. In the US. the used market is very active. I can find lots of receivers for very good prices. They also have a habit of upgrading their hifi equipment every few years. We tend to keep ours for a very long time. hmm.... kind of like how we treat our wives really :)
