rahul Posted February 3, 2007 Posted February 3, 2007 The "peak" warning indicator keeps lighting up on my Marantz 5600. Its not a function of volume as the indicator stays on even at very low dbs. The manual says that it means the input signal is too strong and the attenuator function should be used. But using the Attenuator slices off the peaks and troughs and the music looses depth. The CD player is a NAD C540 connected to AVR via Belden 89507 RCA connector. I usually play without using the Attenuator but am worried if its something that will harm my speakers..especially the tweeters. Is there some way of "reducing" the CD input signal strength without affecting the sound quality ? Or can I just ignore it ?
petetherock Posted February 4, 2007 Posted February 4, 2007 Some CD players have a higher output than the standard. This results in the peak sign on the Marantz. I had this with a Cambridge Audio and my SR 12, as well as other models. Its a protective mechanism. Try it in source direct with the att. I tend to use the coxial in, but I guess that means losing the DACS in the CD player. The other way is to find cables with a higher impedence but I have not experiemented with this before. P

There are such products around. http://www.partsexpress.com/pe/showdetl.cfm?&Partnumber=266-240 Musiclink at Beach Road carries Fmod attenuators. Got 3db, 6db and 12db type. Whether affect sound quality or not... gota try to know.
synthesis1624705793 Posted February 5, 2007 Posted February 5, 2007 That warning come much too early. You can ignore actually. You can also use the 7.1 input (front) instead of other analog inputs and you should not get that peak warning.
