naglfar Posted January 31, 2007 Posted January 31, 2007 Hi, Just wanted to get some opinion on this. Have a Marantz SR5001 + Mission 733 floorstanders + 77c1 as center hooked up as HT set up. The AV amp has pre-out, and so I'm thinking of adding a power amp to beef up the sound. I've never used a power amp in my setup before - so any recommendations? I see some power amps in the echoloft Buy/Sell section, but dunno where to start. Do I need a 3 channel one for the floorstanders and center, or a 2 channel one do? Hope get some inputs from bros here. Thanks!
rahul Posted January 31, 2007 Posted January 31, 2007 I have Marantz SR5600 AVR. Added a Rotel 1075 5-channel power amp(120wpc). Adds more control to the sound and no distortion even when you drive your speakers at high volume. I never felt safe doing that with the AVR alone. You could try this option.
DIRTRUN Posted January 31, 2007 Posted January 31, 2007 Hi, I echo Bro Rahul sentiments... My setup is Pioneer 811 and added Rotel Rb985mk1(karang guni one hehehe) powering Tannoy LCRs. My view is better control at midrange ... dun really know about topend as very seldom yank it up. Cheers Dirtrun
Desperado Posted January 31, 2007 Posted January 31, 2007 Same here, I added a RB985 (also cheap2 one.. but very powderful.. made in Japan siah) to my Denon 3805. The Rotel is in charge of driving L/C/R (use only 3 channel), and Denon is driving the 4 surround channels (mine is 7.1 system). No looking back after that. After playing with so many AVRs, I come to a conclusion not to trust the watt spec of AVR.
synthesis1624705793 Posted January 31, 2007 Posted January 31, 2007 I use Rotel RMB 1066 (6 ch) with Marantz SR 7300 to drive LCR (biamped for all). More control and treble is less sharp compared to Marantz alone.
benzx Posted January 31, 2007 Posted January 31, 2007 I'm using EAM hypex UCD180 2 ch poweramp with Marantz SR4400. Centre and surround still powered by the AVR. The fronts perform much better. Should have asked EAM make me a 3ch one last time man.
petetherock Posted January 31, 2007 Posted January 31, 2007 Does your amp have a DC 12v trigger, then try and get a correspinding amp with one. Mainly the front and centre will benefit from an additional amp, at least giving you twcie the power rating of your current amp for a significant improvement. Rotel makes good budget power amps (that why a lot of bro use it) if you have the funds, look for the 993 / 991 series - 200 pc. Or the 1075 is lovely.
Darthfunk Posted January 31, 2007 Posted January 31, 2007 Any recommendations for a 5/7 channel power amp? The Emotiva MPS-1 and the IPS-1 (seems great for this price range) look nice, the Rotel RMB-1095 looks tempting but kinda out of my price range.
kzone Posted January 31, 2007 Posted January 31, 2007 I'm using Sony N9000ES, find it capable enuff but its now driving only my centre & surround since the front 2 is driven by my stereo integreted. http://members.iinet.net.au/~rutlidge/TA-N9000ES.html
Darthfunk Posted February 1, 2007 Posted February 1, 2007 Just meet up with SC for lunch and we went window shopping at adelphi. Found the price of the Rotel 2 channel 1080 and 5 channel 1075 at only $1180 very tempting. :o Thats at Asia Sound. ;)
ks65 Posted February 1, 2007 Posted February 1, 2007 hello Desperado, You mentioned yours is 7.1, may i know where (back, side or front) do you installed the 4 surrounds. Do you use your system for movie or music as well? Thanks, KS65
naglfar Posted February 1, 2007 Author Posted February 1, 2007 Wow, lots of Rotel power amp owners here. How much can I expect to pay for a 3-channel power amp?
Quest88 Posted February 1, 2007 Posted February 1, 2007 Just meet up with SC for lunch and we went window shopping at adelphi. bo jio :(
petetherock Posted February 1, 2007 Posted February 1, 2007 You busy man what, hey we got audition tomorrow night too, call me Q bo jio :(
Darthfunk Posted February 1, 2007 Posted February 1, 2007 bo jio :( hehe it was a last min thing since i wanted to return SC his CD's and have lunch at funan. Adelphi so nearby how can dont go ;D. Now iam so tempted with the 200 watt 2 channel Rotel 1080 :-* OMG must control cannot be poision! :-X
petetherock Posted February 1, 2007 Posted February 1, 2007 Hey Darth, I had that amp It gives v decent control, but if you need it. The pre must feed it a good signal and your speakers must need the extra control it offers. But your B/W and your Yammy are pretty fine as they are. Control man, tahan!
