yufee147 Posted January 31, 2007 Posted January 31, 2007 Hi all, pls bear with my old projector. I have tried to do a search but can't find the answers to my query. And unfortunately, even the service ple can't help. Ok my story..... I have the following equipment: Infocus X1 Sharp LCD TV Denon 1904 receiver Toshiba DVD Recorder SCV Analogue Box My objective is to connect all the video sources (SCV ->DVD Recorder-> Av Receiver->X1) to my Denon AV receiver (sort of act as a switch) and then output from the AV Receiver to the X1, can i ask what kind of cable/ connector should i used. I suppose ideally if the X1 has a component input, i wil just use component. Unfortunately the best input available on the X1 seems to be vga. My question is: What is the best way, in terms of picture quality, to connect from the receiver to the X1? Thx for reading my post and advice.
Quest88 Posted January 31, 2007 Posted January 31, 2007 i think can just get a component to vga cable in this case? im not sure if your x1 has any problems with such a thing.. this was what i used to do with my 480p projector also. i still got the cable and its rotting in my drawer. :P
simic Posted January 31, 2007 Posted January 31, 2007 Infocus X1 support two types of component input. Interlaced or Progressive Interlaced is via the svideo connector. You will need a proprietary infocus svideo to component breakout cable the part number is SP-VIDEO-ADPT, you can get it from Opusit The price is $19.30 each (inclusive of GST). Our location is at 31 Kaki Bukit Road 3, Techlink #06-13. Progressive is via the vga connector. You need a vga to bnc/rca breakout cable frmo Sim lim. If your source is by default interlaced, then you need to chose whether to go for the deinterlacing by dvd player or projector. The projector has got a rather good in DCDi chip inside. So depends if your dvd player or the projector chipset is better, results may vary. If your source is already by default native, for eg, xbox. Then just input to the progressive input (VGA)
simic Posted January 31, 2007 Posted January 31, 2007 see http://members.shaw.ca/technut/x1faq/ The projector has 3 video input ports. A VGA port for computer connections or, with an adapter, component video (480p or higher). An S-Video port for video connections and, with an adapter, component video (480i). A composite video port (480i). VGA port: 1080i, 720p, 576p, 480p - Component and RGBHV; Computer connections (1024x768, 800x600, 640x480) S-Video port: 576i, 480i - Component and S-Video - Faroudja DCDi processing Composite port: 576i, 480i - composite video - Faroudja DCDi processing
Quest88 Posted January 31, 2007 Posted January 31, 2007 wah. nice and detailed answer. i just pop back in to say i got a component to vga adapter also if u wanna borrow to test, and apparently if u are using progressive.
yufee147 Posted January 31, 2007 Author Posted January 31, 2007 Hi all, really really appreciate the answers but i think i'm too stupid. Ok, does it mean all i need to do is to connect my dvd player, scv box or other video sources to the Denon AV receiver and then just get a vga/bnc breakout cable from sim lim where its component-out from the Receiver and vga-in to the X1? My idea is to just switch the `source' at the AV and automatically the X1 can detect the `source' becuase in the past i was connect a vga-vga cable to a amoi dvd player and also a composite cable to the scv player to watch Scv/ mediacorp programs. However i want to reduce the 2 cables to just 1 cable into the X1 Vga from the receiver. So I suppose wat u guys suggest suggest shld be fine eh? Anyway, thx again for the advice, I will go recee at sim lim and also research more. :)

Does your AV receiver do format conversion? i.e. if input 480i to AV amp, it will convert and send 480p to projector? If yes, then you can connect to the VGA port. (it only accept P sources) if no, i.e. AV amp is just a pass thru devices that does switching,, then you have problem, becoz if you try to send 480i signal to VGA port, it will not display anything. Same goes for the SVIDEO port, it will only accept a 480i signal and not a 480p. A bit confusing, but this is the constraint of the X1 box.

Seriously I have no idea man but I will check but from all the replies i gather the vga accepts progressive while the S-video and Composite accepts interlace signals. AND I assume SCV is interlace rite? Do u know if the HD Broadcast will be interlace or progressive? Looks like i need 2 runs of cable, 1 to the vga port while the other to the composite coz i dont think my Denon do format conversion.
simic Posted February 1, 2007 Posted February 1, 2007 that was what i did. I ran 9x Belden 1694 from my console to projector. 5 for VGA or Progressive Component 3 for Interlaced component 1 for composite VGA goes to my HTPC. Interlaced component goes to my dvd or xbox. (I just manually switch when i need to use either) Composite is left alone.

The Component output on the DVD player has to output in that resolution? Is there such a thing as HDMI to Component?
koma Posted February 6, 2007 Posted February 6, 2007 eh that im not sure cause im a x1 user myself also. best pq i could get was a vga to component cable hope this helps ;) the cable u can get frm monoprice.com pretty cheap also Assuming one has the VGA-Component interface cable, how to achieve the 1024x768 display on the X1? So if you pump in anything other than 800x600, the scaler will kick in and scale it back to 800x600 ;) The component output of DVDp will usually output 480i/p (NTSC) or 576i/p (PAL) if there is no upconversion. The scaler in the X1 will scale it and fit it within the 800x600.

I guess another point to note is that the DCDi chip in the X1 will only process image through composite and S-video, and not component. Here is the info from the website: "Only 480i, 576i, s-video, and composite use the Faroudja processing, so these sources may look better than 480p and 576p from a progressive DVD player that does not have Faroudja inside...." Until now, I am still using a 10m S-video cable from LHS from my SR5001 to connect to my X1. I can't say that the image is the greatest, but it's not shoddy. I chose s-video due to cost constraints - running 10m Belden component cables isn't cheap. I have been wanting to try the component connection, but when reading that 576p will not go through the DCDi chip, I'm still thinking if I should upgrade....
