tsammyc Posted January 26, 2007 Posted January 26, 2007 My XBox 360 outputs 1080i video via component. Should I 1) connect directly to TV via component cables 2) connect to Yamaha 2700 via component and then have the Yamaha send to TV via HDMI
ace11624705782 Posted January 27, 2007 Posted January 27, 2007 Hi Bro, I connect my Xbox 360 direct to my Samsung 61" DLP RPTV (HD Ready) via the vga connection and the result is quite impressive. I don't really like the component connection cos I feel the color is over saturated even after calibration. As for your connection to your Yammy I think you can try and compare the result. When compared the upconversion to my Pio 969 via HDMI and my rhapsody N35 media centre server (via HDMI) I still think the Xbox360 will give both set a run for its money. My two cents worth.
tsammyc Posted January 27, 2007 Author Posted January 27, 2007 Thanks for the input. I bought the VGA cable and tried connecting the Xbox 360 to the VGA input on my Sony 60" SXRD, but the image is shrunken at 1080i and several other resolutions. Problem with the Sony VGA input, which can't be solved. I quite like the 1080i Xbox component connection with HD-DVD and was concerned that the component to HDMI conversion done by th 2700 would affect the image. I've head that the Xbox 360 is a pretty good upscaling DVD player, but I can't really use it because it is locked on Code 3 and most of my DVDs are code 1. So I just use the Xbox for HD-DVD. Just acquired an Oppo 981HD and its slightly better than my Pio 969 over HDMI (which is now connected to a projector) at 1080p.
ace11624705782 Posted January 28, 2007 Posted January 28, 2007 Hi tsammyc, Just a sidetracked question, when you play your HD-DVD, do you play via the additional HD-DVD box or can we just play direct from the main Xbox. From what I have read in AVS forum you can play the HD DVD disc direct form the main box is that right? Yet to buy my first HD DVD disc.
tsammyc Posted January 28, 2007 Author Posted January 28, 2007 No, you need the USD199 HD-DVD drive, which you can buy from Amazon.com. It connects via USB. Bought two the last time I was in the U.S. and using it successfully with imported HD-DVDs. AVS forum chaps may be referring to an upcoming Xbox 360 which has both a HD-DVD drive built-in and a HDMI output.
