hifiluv Posted January 25, 2007 Posted January 25, 2007 was checking out the T series of REL subwoofer (www.sumikoaudio.net). This series creates a space between the sub and floor and there is this comment : "The perimeter rails that define and support the unit are necessary to provide sufficient elevation to allow proper release of the low bass pressure wave" it gives me the impression tat a created space between the sub and the floor will give a change in the sound, so i tried a little experiment, i placed some wooden blocks under the 1/2 inch height rubber feet of my Polkaudio sub raising it about 2 1/2inch fromthe floor and do a demo with Stealth DVD. i find a much more define output from the sub. again, don't know if its my imagination but no harm to try it out with ur sub and see if there is an improvement. ;D
2100 Posted January 25, 2007 Posted January 25, 2007 It actually would work. My SB-12 is a whopping 0.8m above the floor. It actually is on top of another subwoofer. ;D Put the SB-12 down kissing the floor and it doesn't sound as good, in music that its. For HT, I guess not much of a difference, and I think this affects more of midbass rather than deep bass. The floor is another boundary, same as back wall.
buzztiger Posted January 25, 2007 Posted January 25, 2007 I have experienced the same too. I placed my velodyne sub on the floor and the bass is not full. Then i cut a cubes of 1 inch blocks from plywood and placed at four corners to act as feet for the sub. Wow the bass improved alot it sounds more full and complete and gained definition.

pcking1624705747 Posted February 5, 2007 Posted February 5, 2007 Is it home yet? how is it? Yes it's finally in after some delay as I couldn't believe the shipping charges vpost is charging me so I ask them to re-check the dimensions but turns out to be correct. :( See the post below for details. ;D
pcking1624705747 Posted February 5, 2007 Posted February 5, 2007 OK guys, this is my super short review. (maybe cannot even be classified as a review) ;D Ordered my Auralex SubDude from Sweetwater Dimensions is 15"L x 15"W x 2.75"H The Auralex Gramma is 23" L x 15" W x 2.75"H. Sweetwater is selling both at the same price of USD$49.97 although the GRAMMA is bigger in size. As for whether they are made from the same material, I am not too sure but I guess should be similar. Reason I chose the Subdude is bcos my sub is the SVS Cylinder 20-39PCi measuring 16" in diameter. So using the GRAMMA is too wide. The subdude is 1" smaller than my sub but it's perfectly alright in terms of functionality & aesthetics. Performance in one word. GREAT ! Bass definitely improves. Bass is now more well-defined, not boomy & deeper. In addition, it solves all my vibration issues which I was previously experiencing. My glass display cabinet in the living room & my utensils in my kitchen no longer vibrates when my sub pumps. ;D Even my wife says it's a good "investment". Lastly the cost issue. Price wise, at USD$49.97 (regardless of whether it's Sweetwater or Amazon) it's definitely very attractive. As for shipping charges, I am paying a lot more bcos Sweetwater actually packed the subdue with their products' catalog magazine into another box measuring 44.0X 44.0X 29.0 cm !!! That's why ended paying $97 for my vpost shipping charges ! >:( To my knowledge, the SubDude is not available from the local distributer. They only carry the GRAMMA at S$130 but must self collect from they office. For those who r interested in the GRAMMA, it might be better to buy it locally instead.
kzone Posted February 5, 2007 Posted February 5, 2007 yeah, had the same problem with the packaging when I bought the GRAMMA... good to hear that u had excellent results with the dude.. :)
TYF Posted March 18, 2007 Posted March 18, 2007 In addition, it solves all my vibration issues which I was previously experiencing. My glass display cabinet in the living room & my utensils in my kitchen no longer vibrates when my sub pumps. ;D Even my wife says it's a good "investment". I'm also expriencing virbration of the built in-cabinets when my PC-Ultra pumps out the Bass. Can any Bros out there can explain what pcking has experienced when he use Isolation Board under his SVS? I'm been eyeing for Gramma for quite sometime, it would be great if a $135+ investment can solve my vibration problem.
relakbro Posted April 9, 2007 Posted April 9, 2007 Hi all, Just wanted to share that after reading this thread, I tried propping up my sub using those plastic legs/blocks normally made to be used for propping up the washing machine above the floor. And it works! Managed to get a clearer, much improved sound (for around $5/set of four blocks). Many thanks to hifiluv for this thread! :) For those who want to try, you might wanna take note that the top of these blocks usually have a round indentation, cut so that the foot of the washing machine can sit securely inside. As such, it helps if your sub has feet/spikes protruding down longer than (approx) 0.5 cm.
SiriuslyCold Posted April 9, 2007 Posted April 9, 2007 does this work for down firing subs only, or front firing as well o even bandpass?
hifiluv Posted April 9, 2007 Author Posted April 9, 2007 Hi Relakbro good to hear sound is better. just read fm a Hifi magazine, want even better sound?, place a brick on top of the speaker... ha ha..... anyone out there with spare brick blocks and try it out to let us know if it works.... ;D
