choonyen Posted January 24, 2007 Posted January 24, 2007 Dear Bros, I am looking to improve the acoustics of my living room, where i primarily watch DVDs and listen to CDs. I am thinking of adding a carpet to the living room, and also looking to do some acoustic paneling behind the sofa. Any recommendations for nice looking acoustic panels? Ceiling height is about 3.5-4m Equipment list and more pics here. http://www.xtremeplace.com/yabbse/index.php?topic=479.30 Your advice will be greatly appreciated. ;)
benzx Posted January 24, 2007 Posted January 24, 2007 Wah. nice house you got there.. expecially the rooftop garden. ;) A carpet and curtains would do good I guess. Ever tried pulling the front speakers further from the wall? If I'm not wrong, the 603s2 also got a port at the rear right? Giving it more distance from the wall might work well?
choonyen Posted January 25, 2007 Author Posted January 25, 2007 Thanks Benzx, I will move the speakers further away. Are u recommending that I plug up the 603 s2 rear ports?
DJQ Posted January 25, 2007 Posted January 25, 2007 wow nice setup. just what i dreamt of having for my new home. :D
benzx Posted January 25, 2007 Posted January 25, 2007 Thanks Benzx, I will move the speakers further away. Are u recommending that I plug up the 603 s2 rear ports? I'm only guessing that leaving more space between the speaker and the wall would be better. You can try shifting the 603 around to see if it is better ;) Personally, I don't like plugging up ports, be it front or rear ported. Makes the speaker sound like constipation problem. But you can try try see how lor. ;D
Guest OmegaRed Posted January 26, 2007 Posted January 26, 2007 i walk thru the same path as u did, trying to tune the system setup in the living rm. in the end, i given up and shift it into a small rm... by the look of ur living, all u can do it to add a carpet n curtain to tune the system. anything else will actualli spoilt the look of ur living rm and makes it look clattered. in addition, ur livin rm is not proportional which make ur system sound hollow on one side... if possible move it into a rm. its earier to tune it... above is just me 2 cents worth...
kzone Posted January 26, 2007 Posted January 26, 2007 thread hijack.... guys, what do u use to stick the foams/bass traps to the wall/ceiling? Anything that is strong enough to hold the big bass trap at the wall/ceiling for years but would not affect it if I decide to remove it?
choonyen Posted January 26, 2007 Author Posted January 26, 2007 Thanks for the input guys.. :) can't go the option of moving it into the room. Sianz.. I am thinking of installing heavy drapes with rails at the left hand side of the living room (ie, left hand side facing the TV), suspended from the false ceiling. If I'm not wrong, bro muscular27 converted part of his living room to his theatre/audio haven using heavy drapes as well. Also looking for nice looking panels for the back wall. but again.. Aesthetics at stake. ??? Hope i can convince my CO. So please if u have any nice looking panels to recommend, do let me know. Thank you ;)
muscular27 Posted January 26, 2007 Posted January 26, 2007 Bro, You have progressed quite far since the last time we chit-chat. ;D As benzyx mentioned, move L/R speakers in front of your rack. With this moved, your imaging will improve. Also looking for nice looking panels for the back wall Why would you want panels at the back? Absorbing panels? For back wall just leave it bare. Carpet is a good idea. By putting drapes on 1 side, you're simulating a room but then it's not balanced cos your right side is still untreated. Due to your aesthetics needs, it's rather difficult to treat your first point reflection at the sides. Anyway, very nice-looking setup. ;D

hifi_enthusiast Posted January 27, 2007 Posted January 27, 2007 Hi bro If u really keen in getting Acoustic items or professional advise, u can go to swedish statement in adelphi and look for cindy. Frankly speaking your place is big and beautiful but also a headache for audio listeneing. Hope my inform can help ..... it looks like a average sized listening room. not particularly big. Bigger rooms have more potential, especially where bass is concerned.
choonyen Posted January 29, 2007 Author Posted January 29, 2007 Thank u so much for the inputs Bros! appreciate it. will shift the speakers forward and recalibrate the AV receiver and get the carpet. ;D
