game_goondu Posted January 24, 2007 Posted January 24, 2007 Hi, i know that ppl at xtremeplace is very particular about quality. anyone here did a comparision between the MO cable from monoprice and those from LHS. taking an example of the component cable from monoprice US$12.54 http://www.monoprice.com/products/product.asp?c_id=102&cp_id=10235&cs_id=1023502&p_id=2769&seq=1&format=2&style= vs the approx $60 belden component cable from LHS?
imbest Posted May 12, 2008 Posted May 12, 2008 actually I'm very interested to find out too......but sorry to dig this up hehe....
econav Posted May 12, 2008 Posted May 12, 2008 When come to Belden just go to Roberts , will not go wrong . I don't know of any wire/cable still make in USA ? Monoprice work as the buying house that make no diff of some pro installaler in SG that buy cable in Bulk and supply some to retailer. YOU KNOW THE COST for one meter AWG 10 for BULK buying you will cry . Than you may ends up ask yrseft why people pay 100 times the price ,,,,,, I have no ans for all this yrs ? you do ??/ ;D
Jag Posted May 13, 2008 Posted May 13, 2008 That monoprice cables probably were MIC, shipped to USA and fly back to SEA. I think the cost of shipping alone cost mroe than the cable itself. For component cables, just go to Robert and ask for Belden 1694a terminated to Canare crimp RCA plugs. Won't go wrong. Cables are top notch professional grade and the connectors are precision MIJ. Grass in USA is not always greener than in SEA. In a way, americans prefer japanese "Milo tin on wheels" cars than than European or American cars.
Ong Hai Peng Posted May 13, 2008 Posted May 13, 2008 Make sure you get the "Premium" models when you order cables from Monoprice. The regular ones are no better than those found in your regular hardware store. I've used them as subwoofer cables and digital coax and found them comparing quite well against Belden 1694a and 1505F from LHS. As coax I found them pretty neutral and detail. OTOH following some recommendations here and Echoloft I got a pair of 1505F with the Canare plugs as analog interconnects recently. I also got another pair of the some cable and terminated them with unbranded RCA plugs I got from SLT previously. The Canare plugs certainly looked of better quality. At $7/pc against $5/pair one would expect them to be. Interestingly although the cable with the Canare plugs sounded fuller and smoother, I still slightly prefer the pair with the unbranded plugs which I found to be drier but faster, with my feet tapping furiously to the music. For me cables and the tonality they bring to the system are a matter of personal taste. One man's meat may be another man's poison. YMMV. Fortunately the cables from LHS or Monoprice won't be burning holes in our pockets. :D
imbest Posted May 13, 2008 Posted May 13, 2008 cool, so Robert is the guy I shall hunt for now! lol! Since I need some special converter between the speakers and receiver.... (I'm using Spherex Sub as receiver, RCA out. the L/C/R is Mirage Uni-Theater, round shape taking banana plug only....) But I also saw this picture, is it recommended for banana plug to be done this way?
Jag Posted May 13, 2008 Posted May 13, 2008 Jag , How things going.......... ;) Peng Long time no see........ Hows things going on your end?
econav Posted May 13, 2008 Posted May 13, 2008 Jag , Over here very well , lots of project going on. Going for 1080P DLP ? Can meet up ? talk no some biz issue.
econav Posted May 13, 2008 Posted May 13, 2008 Imbest , Base on photo , I rather you connect diretly , high chance for short circuit and any loose contact is the least thing we want to see in setting up Sub Bass.
imbest Posted May 13, 2008 Posted May 13, 2008 Imbest , Base on photo , I rather you connect diretly , high chance for short circuit and any loose contact is the least thing we want to see in setting up Sub Bass. I'm sorry, what do you mean by "sub bass"? the photo is actually the back side of Mirage Uni-Theater, it's a satellites of L/C/R. Connecting directly through banana plug? meaning all sealed without any wire exposed right?
warmasterhorus11 Posted May 13, 2008 Posted May 13, 2008 is that ur Pinky cable?? Imbest bro? get 1313a to try out... ;D
imbest Posted May 13, 2008 Posted May 13, 2008 is that ur Pinky cable?? Imbest bro? get 1313a to try out... ;D no no no, both my Uni Theater and Provence TV console still not arrived yet......that one is taken from seller's very own set :D 1313a......what's the rate now? Is it towards brighter or warmer sound? Just did a compilation of my collection, guess me and my girlgirl have more towards the R&B and Jazz type. kamsia :D
econav Posted May 13, 2008 Posted May 13, 2008 Was just refer to the workmanship and the gap is almost touch the plate , not safe . Just the 3 front using 1313a is good good enought ,anyway only cost less than S$ 6/m use for all 5 also better than any same price branded make. :-X
imbest Posted June 1, 2008 Posted June 1, 2008 is that ur Pinky cable?? Imbest bro? get 1313a to try out... ;D Got my Uni-Theater last week, the connectors are actually spring base clips. So in between there is a hole. The picture actually use bare cable....so any type of banana plug should work.... Getting 1313A to test out the juice of Spherex Xbox Amp first hehe....
