Lucifer Posted January 22, 2007 Posted January 22, 2007 Hi all, Will be moving into my new place within the next 2 months or so, so wife has given the green light to get a 1080p LCD TV ;D I've looked around but notice that there aren't many around my budget, so I'm pretty much limited to the 40"/42" models: Sharp G7 42" Sony Bravia X 40" Samsung F71 40" Toshiba Regza 46" Saw the Regza at Harvey Norman yesterday going for about $6k, any reason why it is so much cheaper than the other 3 models? Otherwise my current preference is still with the Sony Bravia, although for the same price I could get 2" more with the Sharp Aquos. Any comments from users of these models? Thanks!
game_goondu Posted January 22, 2007 Posted January 22, 2007 Regza is cheaper because it has been released for a longer time.... the rest of the 3 model are release recently... almost all within a month... i think there is another JVC full hd model available out there...
freeman Posted January 22, 2007 Posted January 22, 2007 Unless you are planning on using this Full HD TV to watch only high definition source material like Blu Ray, HD-DVD. You should test out all the models watching normal channel 5, channel u, channel news asia broadcast and see which one is able to render a more "acceptable" picture before you make your final decision. 8) P.S. Most places have normal television channels, Harvey, Best Denki. Just have to get the right salesman willing to show you.
FirstTime Posted February 23, 2007 Posted February 23, 2007 Hi Lucifer^, so which one have u decided on? am thinking abt getting the Sony Bravia X 40". Anyone has any advice for normal channel watching?
synthesis1624705793 Posted February 23, 2007 Posted February 23, 2007 .... Anyone has any advice for normal channel watching? Get Plasma. Even the cheapest LG or Samsung plasma will do good.
SC Posted February 23, 2007 Posted February 23, 2007 I have also been looking for a large screen TV as well. Personally, I find the Pioneers have a very pleasing picture and good black levels. You might want to consider the pioneer PDP507. Somewhere else in the forum I believe someone was quoted $6k without the freebies. see the Cnet review which seems to suggest that it won't make much of a difference unless you sit close to the screen. http://reviews.cnet.com/4321-6482_7-6558982-1.html?tag=ms
HT102 Posted February 23, 2007 Posted February 23, 2007 Toshiba Regza 46" I believe the Toshiba is sized 47" and is largest of them all.
kmolth Posted February 24, 2007 Posted February 24, 2007 If u subscribe or buy the starhub HD STB, u will not be disappointed on most channel as the pictures from the HD STB is much much better even on normal channels. regards
Jeremy1624705846 Posted February 26, 2007 Posted February 26, 2007 My take would be the Sharp G7 42" if looking at picture quality. Sony Bravia X 40" & Samsung F71 40" equally good but Sony design is very class.
FirstTime Posted March 10, 2007 Posted March 10, 2007 Thanks for the advice guys. kmolth, read abt the low quality pic display with normal tv watching. so with the HD STB, free to air channel wld be better as well? I presume all channels wld be better later this yr after mediacorp change to HD broadcast.
infernosix Posted March 10, 2007 Posted March 10, 2007 IT show has a promotion for JVC 46" Full HD 1080 LCD going for S$4999 nets/cash. Model is LT Z46ZF7 Hope this will spark a price war and other brands will drop their full HD tv prices... Cheers
htfreak Posted March 10, 2007 Posted March 10, 2007 The JVC is cheap becoz it only supports up to 1080i only. Toshiba has also just launched their 47" 1080p Regza TV for about 5k+.
Norman_Chan Posted March 11, 2007 Posted March 11, 2007 Another choice will be the Philips 47" LCD TV .......
FirstTime Posted March 11, 2007 Posted March 11, 2007 well, the more models out there, the better will be for us! ;D let the price war begins...hahaha
