Great comeback win. United played quite well and looked more confident but they became too negative after going one up and paid the price.

Great finish by Van Persie to level it. He certainly gives us a cutting edge. Henry missed one easy header in 1st half but thankfully scored the other. It is certainly more fun winning matches at the death.

Adebayor certainly gives Arsenal different options. They were trying a lot of long balls today, quite unlike their usual game. Henry was largely missing from the game. Thankfully he turned up at the end. Flamini did okay to cover for Gilberto. Am a bit disappointed with Rosicky's shooting. He should have done better with the shooting opportunities he got. He certainly has the skill. Eboue and Clichy were brilliant. Made Ronaldo and Giggs pretty ineffective in the final third of pitch. Cesc's performance was a bit muted. Not his usual constructive self. Senderos started off pretty shakily but got better later in the game. I still dont trust him and would be happy to see Gallas back.

Great win. Its always nice to rub it in to United. Doesnt change things much in terms of title race, United are still favourites. Still we are in with a shout for 2nd spot.

as an aside...

Did you notice what an ugly nose Ferguson has ? Watching his face up close during the post match conference on a 42" plasma was pretty disgusting. Stuff nightmares are made of.

It was a scintilating display of football by d Gunners........

After scoring 1, Man U made a mistake by dropping a gear, & got punished.....

After d return of their talisman - Henry , d Gunners looked unstoppable man........

They've beaten Liverpool twice, Man U twice.........

Yesterday they were hungry &  played like there's no tomorrow , tireless running all over , 1 gd example is 20 yr old Adebayor........

You hav got to give credit to Mr.Wenger , for producing young RAW talent into GEMS.....

Has anyone heard of these unknown youngsters before - Clichy, Eboue, Senderos, Toure, Fabregas, Flamini, Hleb, Adebayor  ???

This will b d TEAM OF  FUTURE CHAMPIONS , i reckon  ;)

I enjoyed watching Arsenal in action, they bring in entertainment quality to d EPL   :)

what's he wearing? Nikes?

these new boots are way too thin and light to give any protection (I've been reading Pitch Invasion, an awesome book about Adidas)

I read that Kewell dropped his contract (Adidas I think) and is now going to use some boots created by a guy in Brisbane. Basically saying the health of his feet is more important than the money that Adidas provides.

"some guy in Brisbane" wouldn't be our (ex-liverpool player) Craig Johnston, wouldn't it? he designed Adidas Predator boots made famous by one DBecks

Don't think so. I think Craig has been critical of boots from the big manufacturers these days too.

Here are some relevant links regarding Harry's boot switch.

Now it's Van Persie with a fractured metatarsal!!   >:(

It's gotta be the boots, right?!

???

Yes thats a bad one.

He got the injury while sliding in to score the 1st goal.

Dont see how the shoes would have caused it. Neville was too far off to have trodded on his foot.

Anyways, its not a bad way to get injured !

He will be out for 6weeks. Looks like Henry and Adebayor will have to deliver the goals during this period.

Aliadiere might also get a few more starts. And then we also have Theo coming back from injury soon.

Fantastic stuff! Felt like we had won the league!

Henry does it again - he rests for 80 minutes then shifts to 6th gear in the dying minutes.

Hopefully, but don't count on it.  Someone collated a list of other 5th metatarsal injuries (on the Arsenal mailing list), all were predicted to be out only 6-8 weeks, and this was the result:

Michael Owen (2006) - returned 17 weeks later

Wayne Rooney (2004) - returned 14 weeks later

Gary Neville (2002) -  returned 21 weeks later

Ashley Cole (2005) - returned 10 weeks later

Steven Gerrard (2004) - returned 10 weeks later

Average 14.1 weeks -- just in time for the Chelski game...

that's one way of looking at it...

(the glass-half-empty perspective would be "he does sweet FA for 80mins..")

similar to Owen during the FA Cup final vs Gunners. Came to live towards the end of the game to pop 2 goals and with it the Cup.

Yeah, you would have to remind us of that...

One article in the English papers suggested that the Mancs now had some idea of how Bayern felt back in 1999.  Not really, IMHO, this was just one league game, and the Mancs' lead in the table going into the weekend remains the same (fortuitously).  Bayern on the other hand lost the Big Pot.  Come to think of it, same thing happened to Arsenal in 2006, although it was stretched out over a slightly longer period.

English papers overreacting as usual... they went into this knowing Chel$ki had lost and losing the match wouldn't have changed much.

BTW anyone else following the Stuart Pearce story about the Man City player, the Ferrari and an England Cap?

Posted

Armoury - i have the '89 league title reminder from Gunner fans now and then too so the FA Cup final helps ease that pain a little.  ;)

Sirius - i too choose the Ferrari. who cares about an Inguluund cap from S'pore? LOL. but in all seriousness, in this day and age of TV money and sponsorships, how many players can admit to not being affected by moolah.

Another brilliant match.

Another Arsenal win.

Football at its entertaining best ;D

Bolton probably got carried away with all the talk of them being capable to playing "proper" football. They should have stuck to their long ball, physical approach. They made the mistake of trying to play football with Arsenal ;D

Arsenal didnt do themselves any favours by missing so many chances to wrap the game. Ended up wasting a lot more energy that they should have.

The high points were

-  Denilson and Diaby overshadowing Nolan and Speed in the midfield. Those two have a very bright future. Denilson is shaping up like Cesc and Diaby reminds me of Vieira

- Different approaches employed. Passing circles around defenders, high balls, crosses.. Great variety of play. Not like old days of plan A, plan A and even more plan A

- Didnt get intimidated. Held their nerve for such a young team.

- Almunia was ever reliable in goal. He just might have a shot at becoming number 1 after Lehman.

- We didnt miss Henry who might start looking dispensible within an year or two.

- Rosicky and Hleb have really settled in now.

- Freddie is back. Typical run and goal. Flash back to good old days when DB10 used to supply such balls and he finished them off.

- Bolton hoodoo rested for good.

Lows

- Penalty kicks. What were they aiming at ???

- Baptista had a shocking game. Hopefully it is just a one off.

- Wasted too much energy. Might prove critical with upcoming fixture congestion.

- Marking on the corner that lead to first Bolton goal.

There is Justin Hoyte too.

Of course Arsenal youth academy has let go a few Englishmen Upson, Pennant, Bentley..

Too bad they were not good enough for Arsenal.....good enough for some other teams though.

I really wanted Bentley to succeed. He was quite talented but like a few other Englishmen he started believing too much in the hype surrounding his name. Instead of putting his head down, training hard and playing well when he was called upon.... he started talking big. Arsene then had to let him go.

Everyone has high hopes from Walcott. He better live up to them and not become another highly rated English youngster who grows up into anonymity.

The sad fact is that there havent been that many Englishmen who have done justice to their talent. They just command a huge transfer fee and are seldom worth the money. Wth the limited resources that Arsene Wenger has, he cant afford to buy British players. And some that he had (aka Cashley) left because they wanted a few wads more.

Liam Brady is doing a good job with the youth academy. All English and foreign boys get the same training and opportunities. Its upto them to grab their chances. Cant blame Arsenal if most dont make the grade. :)

There's juz something  amiss about Arsenal.........

Besides Theo Wilcott , there's not a single British :-X

Look at the past Englishmen Arsene has had, do you think he would want to hire any more?

1> Ashley Cole - money grubbing leech who left for more cash; backstabber who talks to competitors behind their backs

2> Sol Campbell - says he's leaving to try for Europe, then joins Portsmouth; walks out of game halfway

3> Francis Jeffers - high priced 'Fox in the box' who couldn't hit the side of a barn in Arsenal colors

Of course, there were also Tony Adams, Martin Keown, Lee Dickson, Paul Merson and Ray Parlour - but these were the old guard from the previous manager.

And then looking at the current Englishmen, I feel that Justin Hoyte really not in the same league as the rest, while Theo is still unpolished, once he's polished he would probably jump ship.

I just caught the repeat yesterday, and I must really agree with you. It was an absolutely beautiful game by Arsenal. But I really wonder why Bolton were actually trying to play football. Did they actually believe they could really play ball against Arsenal? Maybe all the hype got to them and they did.

As for wasting energy, I wouldn't worry too much about that. The side Arsene fielded wasn't exactly their first 11 - he rested Henry and Fabregas, and also players like Hleb, Llunberg and  Diaby are all pretty fresh coming back from injury. The defense didn't have to work too hard either...

I must admire Arsenal players' fitness though. Even at extra time, people like Adebayor, Glichy, Denilson etc were still running and dribbling like they had fresh legs. Really incredible!

first of all, its not the England National Team, its Arsenal FC

secondly, as a country whose national team contains foreign players, you hardly have any right to complain, do you? :P
