Ok guys, DHL managed to delivered the baby to me this evening. Have hooked it up via HDMI connection to my Tosh HD-A2. The set has not been calibrated yet. All I did was turn the Brightness to Low (The brightness was a bit uncomfortable on my eyes) and Auto Iris to 'On'. Although there have been some comments on the noise from the Auto Iris.Thorughout' my viewing, I couldn't detect any at all.

The set looks almost like my TW600 except for the lens casing in front. So TW600 owners, if you want to secretly upgrade, this is your chance. Sharp spouses will of course notice the difference in pic quality but "Honey, I upgraded the firmware" always works....For those waiting for the local set, I hear it will be in black so highly unlikely that you can play the switcheroo act.

Anyway, enuf rambling...

Verdict  :

Better details, deeper contrast and more vivid colour reproduction compared to my previous TW600. All the movies have taken on a more 3-D feel to it and I am totally immersed. I have only seen the Mitsubishi HC5K on display @ X-audio and from memory, the brightness is defintely better on the TW1K and the contrast is inkier black. Its about on par as far as clarity, sharpness and detailing is concerned. Colours seem to be richer on the TW1K tho' but I could be biased. On checking settings, the saturation was already set to -3 on the set so there could have been some factory calibration before the set left the plant.

Here are the pics. Pardon the quality as these were taken without a tripod. I merely rested the camera on the arm of my sofa and snapped. As I have pointed out before, these pics REALLY doesn't do justice to the actual footage. The jaggies you might see are not what appears on the screen but due to downsizing of the image when saving to photobucket. You have to see it to believe it!

Will give more updates after I spend some time understanding the new functions (manuals all in jap) and calibrating the set.

Yep....just like a twin. Only the front lens housing is different. It doesn't flare outwards as much as the TW600.

Oh...one more thing is that the angle of throw has changed quite significantly. I place the PJ on a coffee table next to my sofa. With the TW600, my vertical shift is minimal (10% or less). With the TW1K, at zero vert shift, there is a severe downwards orientation so that the middle of the picture is more or less on par with the lens rather than projecting upwards. Net effect is that I had to make use of the upwards vertical shift quite a fair bit to center the picture on my screen.

Just for bros to note if they are switching from the TW600.

Like I said, this is out of the box with no calibration. I would say that its a tad oversaturated to my eyes when viewing on screen but could be attributed mainly to my digital cam. Will try a few shots again after I calibrate the PJ.

hi bro, congrats on your setup too!

The TW1000 is capable of very vivid colors. Just watched The Wild blu-ray - very shiok! But a bit oversaturated for film. BTW, i'm using 'Theatre' color mode. Like you said, should look more natural after calibration

Thks! Yah...Colours very vivid and 3D compared to TW600. Should compare notes once calibrated.

Out of box, its set on 'High' brightness control and IRIS is 'Off'. I changed to 'Low' and turned on IRIS. Didn't touch the rest.

Colour mode - Theatre Black 1, Brightness, Contrast, Tint are zero except for '-3' on Colour.

Colour Temp is 7500K and Gamma is 2.2

Very stoned now as up till almost 3am last nite. Must say that Pricejapan and DHL v efficient. They ship out on Fri evening and it arrived on Sun night.

Luckily, my PJ easier to set-up becos' not mounted on celing. Just take out of box and plonk on my coffee table. Going to hook up my xbox360 next and take it for a test drive!

Enjoy yr PJ !!!

second wwyjoe's suggestion if you can't wait. From the current Epson models that hivizone is selling, they are offering a 2 yr international warranty. So its likely that this will apply to the TW1K as well. If that's really the case, it could be well worth it to source frm them.

Managed to do some calibration last and even my wife (who usually goes "Oh....tats quite nice) is awed by the picture. Popped in Eagles farewell tour and the clarity is amazing. My wife even sat thro' most of the concert and agreed that its like being there. Can see all the sweat on the performers and how age has really caught up with all of them. The grain and scratches on their instruments are clearly discerned. Sound quality is superb too.

Didn't have time to hook up my xbox360 tho'. Mebbe tonight....

I am so jealous man. BTW after your calibration is the red accurate? I often noticed a orangy cast on LCD pj when reproducing pure red......

Dun worry, soon you will have many choices of 1080P PJs to choose from.

The colour is quite alrite after calibration. I adjusted the colour temp to 7000K (previously 7500K) and dialed down Blue (-1) and Red (-1). From what I know, Epson has incorporated the newest Cinema colour filter to counteract the effects of the lamp & promote colour purity and uniformity.

Epson home cinema projectors are well–known for their use of Cinema Filter technology — a technology built in to the projector's optics system and providing a crucial role in the ability to achieve wider colour spaces and colour purity. In its adjustment of the three primary colours (Red, Green and Blue), the new generation Epson Cinema Filter achieves even finer adjustment and balance precision than with earlier models

Guys, short pre-view from from Projector Reviews

"Epson showed their Pro Cinema 1080p 3LCD projector in their suite in the Wynn hotel. Really nice! I"m looking forward to reviewing it in the next month. First, it seems to be the brightest of the LCD 1080p projectors, and second, it's the first under $10,000 projector (to the best of my knowledge) that will ship supporting HDMI 1.3. This is significant, because, versions of HDMI prior to 1.3, only transmit 8 bit color per channel - the traditional 255 shades per color and a 16.7 million color palette, which as some of you may know, isn't quite enough choice (hard to believe) to give you, smooth color transitions in flesh tones. HDMI 1.3 also handles more advanced audio, but that's not a projector issue.

Also of note, Epson has new improved optics and the image looked extremely sharp.

The 1080p Epson will have a suggested retail of $4999! - That will make it slightly more than the other two LCD's the Mitsubishi HC5000, and the Panasonic PT-AE1000U, but less than those DLP's (which are brighter than the existing 1080p LCD projectors. If the new Epson 1080p turns out be be significantly brighter than the other two, (it is rated 1200 lumens, but then Epson is the one company in the industry - from my personal experience - who jusually builds projectors that actually beat their claimed brightness, then there is a lower cost, and bright alternative to the DLP's. The competition heats up!"

FYI, since info on this PJ is quite limited

That's nice and I must say I'm leaning more towards the Epson now (throw distance and brightness) than the Mits, but all they are really commenting on are the specs. To many ifs still "If the new Epson 1080p turns out be be significantly brighter..."

I think I've resigned myself to waiting another couple of weeks or a month to get a clear picture (pun not intended) ;D.
