tsammyc Posted January 12, 2007 Posted January 12, 2007 Hoping to eliminate one cable...., but if it does so will I still be able to use the DSP programs and YPAO
SiriuslyCold Posted January 12, 2007 Posted January 12, 2007 it will pass multichannel over HDMI (does that for DVD-Audio and SACD)
rahul Posted January 13, 2007 Posted January 13, 2007 Question probably not relevant for Oppo.. For HD DVD/Bluray players, are both audio video signal necessarily passed via HDMI only ? Is there an option to send only video via HDMI and audio via 5.1 line outs (like SACD players) ?
SiriuslyCold Posted January 13, 2007 Posted January 13, 2007 Seems so, but I got the impression that some new players don't have a 5/7.1 analog out
zapp1624705742 Posted January 13, 2007 Posted January 13, 2007 Question probably not relevant for Oppo.. For HD DVD/Bluray players, are both audio video signal necessarily passed via HDMI only ? Is there an option to send only video via HDMI and audio via 5.1 line outs (like SACD players) ? Either the players will have an option in the setup to pass audio thru HDMI or SPDIF or the players will just send both/auto switch? Take my Samsung 850 for eg. When i connect it to my LCD TV via HDMI, the player will have a msg saying HDMI audio not supported. I am using TOSLINK for digital audio.
rahul Posted January 13, 2007 Posted January 13, 2007 Apparently TOshiba HD A1 had 5.1 analog out. http://hometheater.about.com/od/blurayandhddvd/fr/toshibahdxa1f.htm But strangely, the new version HD A2 doesnt.. It only has an optical out apart from HDMI. Optical would only be useful if you have a AVR which can decode DOlby True HD, DTS HD etc. (dont think any current AVR model does that). http://hometheater.about.com/od/blurayandhddvd/p/toshibahda2.htm So if I was buying an HD DVD player, I would definitely prefer HD A1.
rahul Posted January 13, 2007 Posted January 13, 2007 On BluRay side: Panasonic DMP-BD10 Blu-ray Disc Player has got 7.1 :o analog out http://www.ultimateavmag.com/hddiscplayers/1106panasdmpbd10/ perfect ! Just hook it on to any 7.1 channel AVR and get HD audio Samsung BD-P1000 doesnt have analog outputs. Only digital optical/coaxial http://www.avrev.com/equip/samsung_bdp1000_bluray/
SiriuslyCold Posted January 13, 2007 Posted January 13, 2007 Optical would only be useful if you have a AVR which can decode DOlby True HD, DTS HD etc. (dont think any current AVR model does that). Actually - due to copy protection (or lack thereof) none of the new HD audio formats can be transmitted via the optical or coax outputs. If you use the optical/coax outputs, players will re-encode the audio streams into plain old 1.5mbps DTS audio
UpGuy Posted January 14, 2007 Posted January 14, 2007 looks like hdmi equipped AVR are the way to go in order to enjoy lossless dolby/DTS HD formats.... sigh....another upgrade(s) in the making.... ::)..
