petetherock Posted January 9, 2007 Posted January 9, 2007 Dear bros I just read this news about Pioneer's new plasma screens, which will be released in USA in summer 2007, announced at the CES: http://www.twice.com/article/CA6405089.html?nid=2402 http://news.yahoo.com/s/nm/20070107/tc_nm/electronics_pioneer_dc
rahul Posted January 11, 2007 Posted January 11, 2007 Nice. But I will have to live with my 7th generation plasma for the foreseeable future :)
lwm99 Posted January 11, 2007 Posted January 11, 2007 Pioneer's press release: http://pioneer.jp/press/release173.html
Knight_Rider Posted January 12, 2007 Posted January 12, 2007 Hmmm better then SED.... and SED is not even out??? But should be good. Looking forward to it.
Jeremy1624705846 Posted January 15, 2007 Posted January 15, 2007 So I presumed that the 8th Gen Pioneer plasma is not a true HD panel ?
petetherock Posted January 15, 2007 Author Posted January 15, 2007 Not sure, fingers and toes crossed ;)
HT102 Posted January 15, 2007 Posted January 15, 2007 Hmmm better then SED.... and SED is not even out??? But should be good. Looking forward to it. If it is really better than SED, expect to be "well priced". Sony has just released a state-of-the-art 70" LCD that retails for US$30k.

armoury Posted January 30, 2007 Posted January 30, 2007 Nice. But I will have to live with my 7th generation plasma for the foreseeable future :) And here I am living with my 4th gen...
multi Posted January 30, 2007 Posted January 30, 2007 And here I am living with my 4th gen... I'm with the 5th Gen... :)
TYF Posted January 30, 2007 Posted January 30, 2007 I'm with the 5th Gen... :) I'm with 6th Gen...bought specifically for HD World cup...only 8 months old.
kmolth Posted January 31, 2007 Posted January 31, 2007 I am living with 4th generation and only 27 months old......
Jeremy1624705846 Posted February 1, 2007 Posted February 1, 2007 I'm with the 5th Gen... :) Me too. That time price is still very high. Really need to think before upgrading. But I feel that the old models built quality are much better than the new one.
htfreak Posted May 9, 2007 Posted May 9, 2007 Finally news about Pioneer's 8th Gen has come out in the UK. The Full HD models will now be available in both 50/60" in Sep while the lower range will be available in June. All units will be equipped with DVB-T receiver and will sport 20,000:1 contrast ratio. Here's some links for more info :- http://www.pioneer.co.uk/uk/campaign/products/projectkuro.html http://www.pioneer.co.uk/uk/campaign/products/projectkuroLineup.html http://www.engadgethd.com/2007/05/08/pioneer-announces-8th-gen-plasmas-with-20-000-1-contrast/ http://www.dailytech.com/article.aspx?newsid=7213
petetherock Posted May 9, 2007 Author Posted May 9, 2007 Hope it hits SG by year end, any idea of prices?
botaky Posted May 9, 2007 Posted May 9, 2007 I inquired with Pioneer Singapore today and was told the 8G plasmas will only be launched here late September or October. Looks like it's still a few months away. :( No idea about pricing.

WOW US5k for a 1080p 50" plasma with 20,000:1 native contrast ratio + improvements to SD video processing (incl noise reduction).. htfreak Posted May 9, 2007 Posted May 9, 2007 Want to bet that our good old Pioneer Singapore will treat those prices as if it is denominated in Sterling Pound and triple it to sell to you in Sing dollars. All 1080p sets will be available in September: Pioneer 50" PDP-5010FD - S$15,000 Pioneer 60" PDP-6010FD - S$19,500 Elite 50" PRO-110FD - S$18,000 Elite 60" PRO-150FD - S$21,500
SC Posted May 10, 2007 Posted May 10, 2007 I very much doubt Pio SG will use US pricing X USD/SGD exchange rate to price the product here. The 7th Gen 507XG street price in the US is even lower than SG pricing on the 427 at some online stores...

The 7th Gen 507XG street price in the US is even lower than SG pricing on the 427 at some online stores... Well, at least the PDP-5000EX was priced near the original MSRP of PRO-FHD1. It'll depend if Pioneer Sg is interested in competing in the 1080p flat-panel market.. Without any 1080p panel competition from Panny, my guess is that they'll just launch the 8th gen XGA and WXGA models in this region and.. maybe lower price of the aged 5000EX a little. :(

Looks like it's still a few months away. :( No idea about pricing. Japan just launch the PDP-A427HX while US/Europe is launching the PDP-428HD/XA so which model are we getting?

Sony has just released a state-of-the-art 70" LCD that retails for US$30k. http://blog.homecinemachoice.com/page/homecinemachoice?entry=pioneer_launches_next_gen_plasma There's no point in us trying to compete with Panasonic on cost when it comes to screens," spokesman Jim Catcheside told HCC. "We're a small company in comparision so the only route for us is to produce super-high quality products that command a price premium
petetherock Posted May 31, 2007 Author Posted May 31, 2007 Just spoke to a friend at Merdeka, the new panels are expected in about 3 months' time, pricing unknown yet.
petetherock Posted May 31, 2007 Author Posted May 31, 2007 Nope, they said the 50", but seriously 42" and Full HD doesn't quite gel :) Don't get caught up in the numbers game, and why not compare the 507 say, to a Full HD Sharp G7 and see for yourself, especially if SD TV is your main viewing source.
