mjck Posted January 9, 2007 Posted January 9, 2007 Hi, I've got the pio dvd player for awhile before i got a sharp PX 37" LCD. So i got a HDMI cable thinking that i could use the upscaling feature but i could not. Two problems that i observed: 1. HDMI indicator does not turn on even thought connected to the LCD TV. 2. The Initial setup items for HDMI resolutions could not be selected. it stays at 480p/i no matter wat software i put in it. Any bros with similar problems ? Thanks

IIRC i tried to upscale my friends set but was not able to do so. To me it looks like a normal 480p player but i could be wrong ???
dbchoong Posted January 9, 2007 Posted January 9, 2007 According to their website, it's supposed to able to up-convert. I remember reading somewhere that it uses Mediatek chipset for that. # HDMI interface (DV-696AV-S, DV-490V-S) HDMI (High Definition Multimedia Interface) is an industry-supported all-digital audio/video interface. Pioneer's new DVD players with HDMI outputs and video up-conversion allow viewers to watch and listen to DVDs with exceptional audio and video resolution. It also makes set-up and connection to the rest of A/V components much easier since everything can be connected through a single cable.
mcmaranello Posted January 9, 2007 Posted January 9, 2007 2. The Initial setup items for HDMI resolutions could not be selected. it stays at 480p/i no matter wat software i put in it. Were u playing any dvd while trying to select HDMI options? If yes, you have stop play to be able to select some of the options in the menu. Hope it helps. :)
mjck Posted January 9, 2007 Author Posted January 9, 2007 The setup menu for HDMI output resolution could only be made when the machine is at stop. So i did stop the playing and tried, however the menu seems to be there but was faded out and not changeable. I suspect the player did not detect a HDMI connection since the HDMI indicator light did not light up , however a 480p or i signal was transmitted via HDMI.

Let me know if its successful so i can get my friend to try it.
f_spider Posted January 9, 2007 Posted January 9, 2007 Bro, best thing u do is call d Pioneer technical people........ After all , they should b oblige to help ;)
mjck Posted January 15, 2007 Author Posted January 15, 2007 Problem solved! Turns out to be a bad cable. So went to get a new Daiyo cable. The guys at pIONEER are very helpfull and test my set on-the-spot. However the hdmi sync is a little edgy, the sequence is important. Need to turn on DVP first, then display. if not the sync may not happen some times.
