petetherock Posted January 6, 2007 Posted January 6, 2007 Dear bros I am planning a new TV for myself and family. Dad will watch lots of teletext in daytime and I wil use it for movies at night. I have read a lot on burn-in, image retention and I am concerned about the likelihood with continuous telext use in the daytime. My likely purchases are the 50" Pioneer 507 and the Sharp46 or 52" Aquous. I understand the LCDs are less prone to burin but will they be good enough for fast moving action? Any opinions on the burn in and TV choice would be greatly appreciated Thanks P
deano Posted January 7, 2007 Posted January 7, 2007 why dont you buy a 14" crt for teletext? that is what i do. pros - cheap - can place it near you - text look sharp - save power or 21" if your dad eye sight needs a bigger screen. although these days, crt teletext is not what it used to be. every page needs to load. i will not want a 50" plasma on just for text! not only burn in and ir, but think of the power consumption :o
petetherock Posted January 7, 2007 Author Posted January 7, 2007 Thanks bro, I am trying to get rid of the old set - big and bulky (any excuse to get a plasma...) But perhaps thats the way..
petetherock Posted January 8, 2007 Author Posted January 8, 2007 Anyone else can offer some help / opinions please? Thanks P
Quest88 Posted January 9, 2007 Posted January 9, 2007 think few people have any of these sets to comment.. i personally find lcd tv ok. was very concerned before buying and think about 8ms fast enough or not, but so far ok. maybe for those bigger sets you may think about 6ms at least. teletext leaving burn in sounds high probability. if your parents got tendency like my dad to leave teletext on then take a nap on the sofa... over time sure will kena one. :P
petetherock Posted January 9, 2007 Author Posted January 9, 2007 Thanks Quest I might shop for speakers first, then wait for the 8th gen Pioneer when I get back, catch up soon. P

It cleared after a while, but I would imagine if you view teletext regularly (I don't), it may be a very real issue.
petetherock Posted January 9, 2007 Author Posted January 9, 2007 Hey thanks for writing Worried about this IR and burn-in. I have a few choices, including waiting for the new Sharp 52" LCD and the 8th gen Pioneer later this year. I hope they have digital tuners built in and better anti-burn in (for the plasma) I will defer my purchase from my planned Jan shopping spree and just get speakers. I just got the 507 for my friend in Oz, will see how it is and report on it. Thanks armoury, deano and quest!
