Ok, first thing to say - I have no idea what I'm doing :).

I fired up RoomEQWizard and followed the instructions. Not sure if I did it all right. I did not recalibrate for testing just the SVS or just my old Tannoy.

So let's have a look see.

This is my old sub:

This is my new SVS PB12-Plus:

Just my LR:

LR with old sub:

LR with new SVS:

Bummer about that hole in the middle hey? I'm thinking of moving the sub anyway, so I'll see if that fixes it. Moving it will be a major exercise :).

Anyway, I don't really know much about how to read these things, and as I said I didn't recalibrate like I should have for testing subs only.

Comments?

Looks to me like there may be phase cancellation between the LR and sub. Before moving the sub, perhaps to try to adjust the phase knob at the back of the PB12 till you get a better plot for 35Hz to 50Hz?

Typical 50 to 56 hz problem in Singapore , don't worry . Sometimes if you can get the 50hz up , there wil be more problems like double bass due to delay or resonant on a corner .

The best way to look for a new location for ur sub is the put the sub in your listening position, then measure the freq response with the mic at the potential sites of the sub. Choose the site that measures good and put ur sub in that site.

Then try the phase adjustments. Measure and remeasure with ur phase phone at 0, 45, 90, 135, 180 degrees. Live with whatever phase setting that gives u best results.

Once that is done, change ur cross-over on your sub to the minimum. Measure and remeasure as u adjust the cross-over high and higher. Live with whichever gives u a best and smooth curve that nicely splices the sub together with the mains.

Thanks for the advice.

I think there is really only one other place to put my sub given its size and the room layout. My room is L shaped with glass sliding doors leading to the balcony on the left side, open space on the right. I'm thinking it will have to either stay where it is (front wall), or go in the back left corner. The latter being a bit too close to the glass doors I think.

Anyway, I'll have another play during this week and see how I go.

BTW I was using 2Hz increments, no need to go down to 1Hz, right?

Why is that case in Singapore ?

I believe it is due to the ceiling height . I have tested few ppl house,be it small/big hall, room and etc , all have the similar problem on either 45 tp 56 hz . Moving around the sub can help slightly but it may introduce other dips or worst still , the deep freqency is no good liao(to my taste) .

It may also due to the listening position where we like to sit 2/3 to 3/4 in the middle of room + the nature of 45 to 56hz wavelength . For 50 to 56hz , an inch can make big difference on db .

Bass trap can also help to boost up the dips slightly(in some cases) + reduce ringing + reduce the peaks naturally . However , you need many many and huge bass traps to do it and it take up space . The lower the frequency , the bigger traps you need .

If you cannot shift the listening position , shift the sub . There may be a place that the sub produce the best .

There won't be perfect bass but only nice bass feel so it is better to find a place that you feel the best . A perfect freq response graph can have many hidden problems . So sometimes it is better just to get the feel and ignore the dips .

Just a side note.Different positions(listening/sub) will have different feel . It may be good on this movies but not other .

Multiple subs can overcome many problems(still cannot be perfect) but need times, effort, space and money .

I guess the only nice feel from a sub is if you put your sub in a corner and you sit at the digonally opposite corner but who want to sit in a corner to watch movies/listen music  ;D
