the hitachi model said it can process 1080p signal and output it...

don't know true a not since it is only 1024 x 1080 while full HD is at 1920 x 1080

also in terms of price wise, it is much more cheaper than the rest...

can any owner of the hitachi plasma comment on its reliability?

i was intending to get one to put at my living room to replace my old sony rear projection tv

i had 1 hitachi lcd tv in my bedroom which was quite good... served me well for about 1yrs+ without prbs...

According to the Hitachi catalog ...only the HDMI can output 1080p and the Video Component can output 1080i

As for the Pioneer 427 , is this having the 100 hz scan feature ? Thought I saw the model 436 having this 100 hz scan feature ....

The 427 does indeed have the 100hz scan feature.

My set will be here on friday! ;D

Paid $37xx with 2 yrs extended warranty but without HITB set.

The rest include table stand,HDMI cable, ISF calibration, 1 dvd and a pair of movie tickect.

Bargain with the shop to take it back as I already have a Sony HTIB.

From Pioneer.sg website theres no mention of 100hz scanning.

Hitachi 9800TA is $3000 and $2400 from Gain City AMK IP2.

Pioneer 427 is can be had for $3900 with HT and the HT set can be returned to claim back $500. the actual price would be $3400 after that. quote from HN paragon. 436 is $28xx but only 1 year warranty IIRC.

if Panny PV600 is really at $4000, i dont think its worth it, the PV60 with the same panel was going for $2900 with $950 of NTUC voucher. the voucher is now cut half to $400 yet the price stayed.

i got the Hitachi 9500TA, the DVD is great, TV is good enough, black is slightly lacking, the biggest problem is the flickering issue. not a really a problem when view TV, noticable on DVD but cant see the flickering like CRT, very obvious when connected to PC with component.

if you not thinking of changing in the coming 2 years or so, Pionner 427 with it superior PQ, deep black, 100Hz scanning and good PC connection, is the top choice.

panny with its cheap look and too deep black was never my considerable.

me and my friend managed to get a special price from AH for Pioneer 427 at $3600 with HITB nett and if trade in of the HITB will be $3100 nett. so far this is the best buy i know...

of course this special price is only possible if we bought 2 plasma together...

i believe if more people can join in to buy the plasma, we can get even better price...

so if anyone interested to get this pioneer plasma, please pm me to join us...

we intend to get the plasma by mid of Jan 2007.

cheers.

Hmm.... How to look for flickering issue - I don't seems to see it. However, I do notice some issue on the side - jagged edges, especially during soccer matchs when they show the bright green field....

its a curse for some of us thats too sensitive to flickering, you cant see it, good for you. :)

anyway, try connecting to PC, either with S-video or component. the flickering on all white background would be very obvious.

I am curious about the diff in the panasonic vs pioneer's contrast ratio. Panasonic contrast spec is 10K while Pioneer is 4k but most people like Pioneer's balck level......so did Panasonic overrate their spec or am I missing something? BTW what exactly is "too deep black" and why is it undesireable?

always compare spec from the same manufacturer, eveyone of them use different measurement. eg, they take the brightess white from highest brightness setting and take the darkest black from lowest brightness setting and comes out with the claim contrast raito. eg, if the panel luminance is 1,000cd/m2 and manufacturer claim 10,000:1 contrast ratio, the lowest black it can do is 0.1cd/m2. if the panel luminance is 400cd/m2 with 4,000:1 contrast ratio, the darkest black is still at 0.1cd/m2. since sense home user dont use 400cd/m2 let alone 1,000cd/m2, the "improved" contrast doesnt help anything. (PC LCD max at ~300cd/m2, CRT ~100cd/m2, most monitor set at ~70cd/m2, home TV at ~150cd/m2)

10,000 contrast ratio is...more like dynamic range, doesnt tell how many steps of gray it can produce between the highest white and darkest black. just take it as panny had improve their panel over previous generation.

i dislike panny's black cause i cant see as much shadow details as i do on Pioneer 427. still, its better than most other panel including Hitachi's ALiS.

I haven't looked closely at plasma panels recently -- too depressing seeing the price today compared to what I paid nearly three years ago  :'( -- but as far as I can tell, given the much lower prices of the top panels (Pioneer, Panny), you might as well get one of those rather than save a few bucks getting an LG.  Last time I looked, the LG was still far behind in PQ to the leading brands.

Given that the Pioneer 436 is being phased out, and it is a very impressive panel, you can probably get it for just over $2,500, making it a real bargain IMHO.

Ive been looking at Plasma's for years but never dared to jump in due to its high price. I finally took the plunge last week - 31 dec to be exact.

Just to share with u guys here, i was basically looking for only 50in or thereabouts and the contenders for me were the 50' Panny pv600 and Samsung 50' P7 and the 46' Sony Bravia. I went for the sammy in the end which won me over for its all gloss black trimming whereas the Panasonic was black with silver trimings. Spec wise both were nearly the same but the Samsung is the latest one in. Very good pictures via hdtv fm mediacorp.

Now how much does it cost ? Courts had it (Sammy) for like 7999  :o with freebies thrown in. I eventually got mine from Gain city at slightly above 6.5k incldg the freebies as well !!! Great storemanager there whom i knew before (bough a/c fm them last year). Panny was going at courts for abt 6999 after less abt 6.4k with dvd camcorder thrown in as well. Gaincity was about the same 6350 with the freebie camcorder.

Deliverty will be this saturday so im pretty excited. Cheers !!
