kmolth Posted December 26, 2006 Posted December 26, 2006 Merry Christmas & happy new year everyone..... After years and months of restraint..... and holding off since V4 EQ to now V5EQ..... I finally take the plunge to upgrade my MC12B to MC12B V5 EQ..... hehehe.... now waiting for the installation and calibration to be done..... Hope I will be amazed by the new "sound"..... Regards rtankm..... :)
oliverlim Posted December 26, 2006 Posted December 26, 2006 Thats great! May I visit you after the upgrade? :-p It seems like Room EQ is becoming more and more common. In addition to Lexicon, Meridian, it seems like Audionet is also offering EQ on its pre/processors. Of course Marantz latest receivers also offer Audyssey as well. I am sure there are alot of Denon reciever users and probably the new Marantz reciever as well. What has been your impression of Audyssey or any Room EQ device that you have used? Good? Bad? Waste of time? Oliver
yellowhandman Posted December 26, 2006 Posted December 26, 2006 having done the auto-setup etc. on my denon 2807, i find that audyssey either doesn't really make that much difference, or that it actually 'dulls' the sound of system somewhat compared to when its turned off. it's probably trying to 'round off' the sharper edges, but it all ends up sounding less dynamic. then again, i'm getting by with a 4.1 setup, so maybe the absence of the centre speaker inhibits the effectiveness of audyssey.
kmolth Posted December 26, 2006 Author Posted December 26, 2006 Sure no problem, once it is installed & calibrated we can arrange a day for playback. So far I have not tried any EQ stuff before, but in my system I think the sound can be improved as my living is relatively big with a few "holes" i.e. corridor to room and also main door entrance. Also, different brand of speakers used surround are Triad in-ceiling and front 3 are Silveline..... furniture is L type sofa which kind of block 1 side of the main speaker. And my false ceiling once in a blue will rock too if the show is too solid..... Hopefully this will improve and tighten things up and improve clarity further 1 step I hope. I have been thinking where I should upgrade..... full HD PJ? cost too much and need new software and players and video processor... so decided to drop this.... thinking of getting a new sub maybe a BP12+/2 but hod back as if the V5 can pump the front stereo speakers like sub then maybe I don't need to upgrade the sub yet. Also thinking of getting a new 7 channel power amp to match the MC12, now using 3 amps and run hot and consume too much power when standby.....thinking about LX7 but now obsolete..... any recommendation on 7 channel amp that run not too hot and low power during standby..... my HPA3 and Meridian 557 is sucking amp during standby too....:-( Lets hope it works!
Jason Yeo Posted December 26, 2006 Posted December 26, 2006 Congrats on your upgrade , bro . Must revisit again . Likely you still need to buy the PB12+/2 even your fronts can pump up good bass . But give us report first

Asia Sound has brought in the Anthem Amps which has a good reputation and reviews. Perhaps you can give those a listen. If you are looking for amps with do not run hot perhaps one of the many digital amps around? Rotels, Bel Cantos, Jeff Rowlands? EQ cannot do magic. If your mains do not go low, no matter what, a EQ cannot make it go lower :p Wat subs are you using now? I heard some Triad subs and they are quite good. I do see some 2nd hand models being sold once in a while. In a big room, I doubt any one single sub can give you the headroom if you listen very loud. Oliver Oliver

htfreak Posted December 27, 2006 Posted December 27, 2006 Has anyone demoed the Audyssey EQ device available at Sound Decisions. Happen to come across it when I popped in there to take a look at the Mitsubishi HC5000 which they are also selling.

See this thread: http://www.xtremeplace.com/yabbse/index.php?topic=42343.0 I was VERY impressed by the Audyssey EQ. Good to hear that they are selling the HC5000 too. When I was speaking to them it sounded like they were just going to do Sony projectors.

Seems like Sony kept messing up on their promise to deliver on the Pearl demo unit and as a result, they decided to turn to the HC5000 to plug the gap for the time being.
kmolth Posted December 28, 2006 Author Posted December 28, 2006 Just got my MC12B upgraded yesterday and initial impression is very good.... it seem to "clear" up the system and every thing seem very clear bass treble etc.....I feel I hear so much more now...... heaven't had time to watch a full movie but I am very impressed..... it like a new system totally..... even CD music on L7 Music sound so good....don't feel like going back to stereo hehehehe....... Now one question is the PB12+/2 is one active 12" and one passive? or both active? Now I am so so tempted to buy this sub to improve further..... is 9 year old MX125 still good hehehe?

How does Lexicon do its EQ? Automatically? As I understand it does it mainly to the below 300hz right? You be surprise how getting the phase/crossover correct for the subs can have such a impact on the warmth or brightness of the speakers sound. I believe this is what you are hearing. U do know that SVS is increasing their prices in Jan right? Better make the jump now while you can. Oh ya. I believe I still have 10% discount coupon from SVS valid. Contact me if you ordering and I see how I can use it. Oliver
kmolth Posted December 29, 2006 Author Posted December 29, 2006 Hi Oliver, drop u a PM. Yup the EQing does it automactically and took about 30 mins to finish. From eq to measure db level from each speakers and sub etc. I think you're right to say it does EQ all the way below 300hz.... how far down not too sure..... but the effect is so good.... I was just testing the Pirate of Caribean...and the starting bass note was so cool and "round" hehehe..... I think my room acoustics now is being compensated by the EQ and everythings sound clear when in complex passage in movie.... check the setting and it does pick up my sofa on the right as it is blocking my speaker a bit and it compensated by raising the output more....etc... Overall I am pretty impress..... now about the PB12+/2 seem like you guys are "pushing" to jump down for it.... by telling price increase in 07 and 10% discount...haha
