yellowhandman Posted December 22, 2006 Posted December 22, 2006 Has anyone else been having problems with SCV MaxOnline over the last 24 hours? My cablemodem connection seems to drop out intermittently every 10 minutes or so, then come back. Damn irritating. The website says they were doing maintenance until 21 Dec, but the problems for me actually started on 21 Dec and are still going on today.
Quest88 Posted December 22, 2006 Posted December 22, 2006 i had problems 2 nights ago after midnight till morning, but resolved already.
basspundit Posted December 22, 2006 Posted December 22, 2006 OT a little bit I'm getting some horrible transfer rates from certain overseas sites ever since I shifted. Getting damn annoyed, thinking of switching over to Singnet but transfer rates also not guaranteed. I know your transfer rates are affected by local connection conditions(phone-line quality, local hub congestion) as well as our overseas pipe. Perhaps we can have a survey of sorts to give a rough feel of transfer rates to our favourite sites in different areas of singapore using SCV or Singnet so we can choose the best ISP for our usage?
hifi_enthusiast Posted December 22, 2006 Posted December 22, 2006 i'm ok with SCV. Pls do not expect to get max theoretical bandwidth during peakhours. For SCV MOL 4000, this is what i get in terms of download speeds: Offpeak before 7pm - 400kb/s download from overseas websites no problem. Peak 7pm onwards - 200kb/s Super peak - weekend nights - 100-150kb/s. i.e. drops to nearly 1/4 of max bandwidth. Just do your downloading during off-peak ;D

Deimos Posted January 2, 2007 Posted January 2, 2007 let me guess , u are using the old terayon modem from SH ?(TJ210) If u are, yr modem is rendered obselete by starhub 's upgrading their services. that's what happened to my 5 yr old modem... went dead lost all connection to the internet after what happened to u happen to me. I called up SH phone support 1633 and they arranged a technician to replace the old modem with a REFURBISHED modem FOC. Anyway those old modem cannot support the newer 12000 speed. (after free upgrade from 6500) , so either u get frequent disconnection OR totally no connection. so get yr modem replaced asap another way is to buy a brand new modem at SH shop at 99 bucks...

EXACTLY! I called them a few days ago, and their technician actually came yesterday (New Year's Day - impressive) to swap the modem. At least they were fair and offered me a free exchange, even though my modem was out of warranty. i wonder how many less tech-savvy users are ignorant of the fact that their modems are actually preventing them from getting what they are paying for.
Quest88 Posted January 2, 2007 Posted January 2, 2007 mine is a motorola modem by starhub, about 4 years old. does it cause any major bottlenecks or not? i guess i don't have a problem with it as i'm not a demanding surfer, but would just like to know. :)

The symptoms of my problem were very obvious...every few minutes my internet connection would just go dead for a minute or so. Very irritating.
