Desperado Posted December 22, 2006 Posted December 22, 2006 Upgrade itch questions... Currently use Denon 3910 and Hitachi TX100. Thinking of "last"upgrading for SD before BR/HD DVD become mainstream.. What I have in mind is HC5000 and Denon 3930, so here are the questions... - Since Mit HC5000 has Reon VX inside it, use it together with 3930 (Realta T2) will be an overkill? - Or there is a way to exploit the maximum benefit of the combo? - Stick with 3910 and get HC5000 to do the upscaling. if so, what is the best feed to HC5000?
Doggie Howser Posted December 22, 2006 Posted December 22, 2006 Is the Hitachi DLP or LCD? :) The D6 panels have nicer blacks vs older gen LCDs, but I think it still isn't as inky black as a good DLP. If you have an older LCD, the HC5000 shd be a nice upgrade. I am seeing better blacks than on my old AE700 LCD with 1000+ hr lamp (all in low mode) FWIW, I use the HC5000 to watch DIVX streamed off my PC on my HD MediaBox MB100 ;) But it is probably overkill unless you want to move to HD/BR.
eggz Posted December 22, 2006 Posted December 22, 2006 Since the Mitsu HC5000 has a Reon, which according to most reports of the Denon 2930ci vs 3930ci, unless you're into SACDs or particular about audio quality, then yeah I think a 3930ci paired with the HC5000 will be overkill. I think a good DVD to pair with the HC5000 is one that has a decent mpeg decoder, is reliable with most media and divx and is capable of 480i via HDMI, and the Oppo 970HD comes to mind. It'll also do SACDs which is a nice bonus. The Reon in the HC5000 should be able to do a very good job with deinterlacing and scaling SD material, not sure about HD, 1080i stuff though.
