enthusiast1624705824 Posted December 20, 2006 Posted December 20, 2006 Can I have an idea of what Blu-ray and HD-DVD titles you guys have bought and liked? I'm looking forward to the Blu-ray release of Final Fantasy Advent Children because the R1 DVD version looks murky and pixelated when upscaled.
Doggie Howser Posted December 20, 2006 Posted December 20, 2006 On HD DVD Batman Begins (one of my fave shows in ages) V for Vendetta (never watched it in Cinema.. decided to get this in lieu of the DVD) MI1-3 boxset (Maggie Q, red dress, Lambo.. nuff said) Superman Returns (wanted a recent movie to do a comparo with BluRay) Fast and Furious (so said the motorhead) On BR Italian Job (OK I was grasping at straws cos I didn't see that many titles I wanted initially) Into the Blue (Jessica Alba in a bikini HiDef.. nuff said) Memento (Chris Nolan's first major success tho it isn't as feature packed as my Director's Cut DVD years ago :() Superman Begins (HD vs BR shootout) Waiting for some new shows I haven't watched or shows that I want to collect. I actually have most of the shows here on DVD, so it's like re-doing my film collection. After the initial enthusiasm, now want to be more prudent in my purchases. At the moment, on the watch list are Talladega Nights (can't bring myself to buy this after I missed the 14.99 offer that Jeff intro-ed) :( I haven't watched it before, but it's not my idea of a keeper. Click (the trailer I downloaded in AVC is gorgeous but the film is in MPEG2?) Ultra Violet (haven't watched it yet.. but again, not my idea of a keeper and it seems PQ is not too hot according to the reviews) Silent Hill (haven't watched it yet.. but again, not my idea of a keeper and it seems PQ is not too hot according to the reviews) Lady of the Water (haven't watched it yet.. but will M Night Shamawazisname finally deliver?) Pending... HD DVD Essentials

enthusiast1624705824 Posted December 20, 2006 Author Posted December 20, 2006 Ah yes, Pearl Harbor, the R-rated cut, definitely a must-buy if I were to own the player
jayson1624705825 Posted December 20, 2006 Posted December 20, 2006 Err got universal player meh? DVD used to be in 2 camps the + and - camp, now most players/recorders not only play both formats but also vcd, music cd etc... therefore in future if a manufacturer sign up with both the HDD and Blue Ray we might get a player that play both formats .....hopefully ;D ;D
Doggie Howser Posted December 20, 2006 Posted December 20, 2006 DVD used to be in 2 camps the + and - camp, now most players/recorders not only play both formats but also vcd, music cd etc... therefore in future if a manufacturer sign up with both the HDD and Blue Ray we might get a player that play both formats .....hopefully ;D ;D Exactly. IF. FUTURE. ie not now. You could choose to wait for the standards to stabilize. For me, I was going to get the PS3 anyway, and I already had the XBox 360, and thanks to Sam, I managed to snag one of the HD add ons for the Box, so it was a bit of a no brainer. And I know there are others with dedicated sets of both camps :P (AUDIO take a bow ;) ) True, I don't got TrueHD/Lossless Master now, so am using optical for 5.1 downmix but it seems a decent solution. Am getting the full 1080p image and it is gorgeous :) I had slowed down my DVD purchases in the last couple of months so as not to create too much overlap in my collection, but I think it is inevitable.
Doggie Howser Posted December 20, 2006 Posted December 20, 2006 Bro, how abt BR Pear Harbour? Amazon just shipped my copy ;D ;D Hidef Digest reports that it is great demo disc material, especially in audio I know.. but I already got the original Pearl Harbor DVD (theatrical release) with the National Geographic add on PLUS the collectors edition with the journal packaging. Both of which I never watched in entirety :P

Jason Yeo Posted December 21, 2006 Posted December 21, 2006 I guess the version you own isn't a combo dude :) ??? I understand there is only US ,jap and German version for serenity on HD . German version is combo ??? Btw , are you referring HDVD/DVD combo or what combo ::) For US version , from hidefdigest http://hddvd.highdefdigest.com/serenity.html Or you mistaken serenity as superman return ? Superman return is a combo disc, yes but not serenity .

Also just got Fearless in a combo version. Found the ebay link . http://cgi.ebay.com/Serenity-HD-DVD-HI-Def-Disc-Combo-NEW_W0QQitemZ140066862507QQihZ004QQcategoryZ617QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem . But I am sure this is not a combo . If you have the disc , please play on normal DVD player and see if it works ;D . Fearless , yes is a combo . Just see the top header on the HD-DVD . If it is a combo , it will stated there . I am pretty sure serenity is not a combo unless yours special ??? I just want to correct wrong info only , no worries . Please pardon me for my ignorance ;) Btw , HD DVD and DVD combo dis means one side is HD DVD and the other side of the dis is DVD . So no printing on the dis either side. If you have printing on the dis , it is only HD DVD only and not a combo . ........Where is Mr Jeffong and Audio ? Maybe they can explain better than me ;D
Fred1624705785 Posted December 21, 2006 Posted December 21, 2006 Hi petetherock, Maybe u misunderstood by the back of the cover by the 1080p for HD-DVD & 480i for DVD :) the movie is 1080p but the special feature like 'the making' & 'Deleted Scenes' is in 480i ;D
Fred1624705785 Posted December 21, 2006 Posted December 21, 2006 yes, 'The Fealess 霍元甲' is Combo Format ;D but not 'Serenity'
