chanfm Posted December 15, 2006 Posted December 15, 2006 Hi bros, Am looking for a new projector. Budget around $3000. Can anyone give me clues to what is good for this budget? Hv been using an Infocus 4805 for about 2 years but have recently had some problems with it. Maybe I am just having upgrade fever... Regards

lyzzard Posted December 15, 2006 Posted December 15, 2006 I am considering between the Panny AX100 and Sony Z5, awaiting for demos to be set up after Xmas. Both models should be under $3000, I know the Panny is about $2700, the Z5 will likely be a bit higher but I hope it won't bust the $3k ceiling I've set for myself.

Regards Consider Mit HC3100 the latest DC3 720p pj or Epson Tw700 D5+ 720p pj. Both should be available in Singapore.....if you want to go below your budget try the Mit HD1000/HD1100 available from USA or Japan for about $1700 or so......

audionoob1624705779 Posted December 15, 2006 Posted December 15, 2006 Hi Do you know where I can audition the mitsubishi? For Mit call Mediaplex and ask for a demo and for Epson try KEC.
cmk Posted December 19, 2006 Posted December 19, 2006 I would go for the Optoma HD70/72. If you get it cheap, then get a Denon 2930 together.

You can check out the 3 systems HC5000(1080 @ 6.2K), HC3100/HC1100(720 @ 3.4K/2.4K) at one single place. Give a call to Rick at 96897933 to fix the appointment and place, they've a few audition location. chanfm Posted December 21, 2006 Author Posted December 21, 2006 Hi Bros, Thanks for all your advice. Does anyone have any opinion on whether LCD or DLP projectors are better? Or is too close to call? Best Regards
audionoob1624705779 Posted December 23, 2006 Posted December 23, 2006 Hi Bros, Thanks for all your advice. Does anyone have any opinion on whether LCD or DLP projectors are better? Or is too close to call? Best Regards I don't think anyone can make a call between the two. It's all down to personal preferrence and situation....
cmk Posted December 26, 2006 Posted December 26, 2006 Hi Bros, Thanks for all your advice. Does anyone have any opinion on whether LCD or DLP projectors are better? Or is too close to call? Best Regards Both have their supporters, but IMO DLPs win in terms of the most film-like. I used to use an LCD, and after trying DLPs, I won't look at an LCD again. Anyway, you can choose, but go and see for yourself.

Nows a day LCD improve a lot liao... Now I only waiting until 1080P LCD sell below $3K .... :)
Jag Posted December 26, 2006 Posted December 26, 2006 Although I generally prefer DLPs, but LCDs do give better colour vibrancy and correctness. IMO, LCDs today are pretty good for its significantly lower price than an equivalent DLP. Although, there is still no definitive conclusion as to if today's LCDs can last anywhere as long as a DLP equivalent.

The colors on the HD70 may not be perfect, but I can tolerate a bit of color error more than SDE and not dark enough blacks.

I am all for LCD if not just for helping to push DLP prices down. I hope the soon to be launched JVD DILA and the Pearl will do the same in helping to push 1080P prices down too. Its just too high at the moment. Oliver

Dont quite agree here, in the AVSForums it is agreed that DLPs generally give better flesh tones and accurate colors and are just as vibrant and deep as LCD. As for the durability of LCD PJs, my AE100 was showing discoloration due to burnt polarisers only after a few months of use, I have also seen many boardroom LCD PJs showing discoloration and I am sure you would remember many such posts on LCD PJs even here on xtremeplace discussing this issue, so the durability issues on LCD PJs are very real, unlike say FPD Plasmas and LCDs in which the jury on durability issues is still out. My Optoma DLP H30 is still going strong since April 2004. Yeah I am one of those who cant stand SDE and light blacks, it totally destroys the filmlike quality of PJs.
Corona11 Posted December 27, 2006 Posted December 27, 2006 http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?t=752596 Check out this link there is a comparison in one of the replies by Huey on what even current latest gen LCD PJs can and cannot do, the star field scene was enough for me to hold on to my bias against LCD. I am still shopping as I need lens shift and only LCD PJs within my budget have them......darn.
cmk Posted December 29, 2006 Posted December 29, 2006 Actually the HD70 only has a bit of over saturated red, probably a function of the 8bit processing, otherwise, its really good. I haven't even fully optimised the setup as I'm using component cables. Denon 2930>Canare component cables>Optoma HD70 (with Audioprism Quietline plugged into the wall socket!!!) I'm constantly surprised at the quality of the image I'm getting and have been having fun revisiting my collection of old SD DVDs. ;D
