Slammer1624705845 Posted December 7, 2006 Posted December 7, 2006 Hi, After some research, it looks like the Denon AVR-1507 (SGD$400) and Jamo A102 HCS 5 (SGD$598) meets my budget and requirements (speakers must be compact, used mainly for TV and movies in living hall). Does anyone have the same combination and could advise on the resulting sound quality? Any better deals that you know of? One concern is that since the AV receiver is rated at 110W @6 Ohms pc whereas the speakers are rated at 80W @6 Ohms pc, will this cause any problems from overdrive? Thanks.
petetherock Posted December 7, 2006 Posted December 7, 2006 More power is fine, you won't be driving this to distortion, eg at stadium levels anyway. It gives more control and you need to reach 110db or deafening levels to cause harm. The police will be knocking on your door by then :) Besides, I am afraid the Denons won't reach 110W in reality. See specs (per channel, or all channels driven - companies like NAD and HK give more realistic ratings) and real ratings. Do give us your opinion on the set up. P
buzztiger Posted December 8, 2006 Posted December 8, 2006 i owned the denon avr 1507 b4 it is oni 75W

I won't be getting them until Feb 07 so there is some time to change my mind if there are better options around for that price. I am willing to shell up to $1500 if the value is warranted. Thx.
Slammer1624705845 Posted December 8, 2006 Author Posted December 8, 2006 i owned the denon avr 1507 b4 it is oni 75W I believe 75W pc is rated for 8 Ohm impedance speakers and 110W for 6 Ohm speakers. Pls correct me if I am wrong. Thx.
petetherock Posted December 8, 2006 Posted December 8, 2006 Hi dude No matter what the ratings, 6 or 8 ohms, they just don't reach those levels. Imagine those THX amps with their massive transformers, are also rated 110 to 200W. It takes a lot of current and equipment to generate that much power. No worries, what you have is enough for a flat. See the threads on amps for first time buyers, we have many choices. There must be hundreds of brothers asking "1 to 1.5K for a first time set up amp plus speakers" The Marantz SR 4001 won awards recently in Oz. Yammy, Denon and Onkyo all make decent stuff. I am partial to Marantz, as you can see :) If HT is all you want, most speakers will be fine. Main things are matching voicing and tonality. Dont expect too much from a budget subwoofer. BTW there is a Onkyo THX 990 amp plus speaker setup some brothers are talking about for less than 1.3K search around. Good luck PS: If I get bored of my Panny XR 57, will consider selling it then when I come home (220V set) ;D
Darthfunk Posted December 8, 2006 Posted December 8, 2006 pete.. I book if you want to sell! :) Yea and he will be the first to open up to see the innard lol! ;)

Actually the Onkyo HT-S990THX was my first choice but that didn't come with enough of the WAF. :( The Jamo was the closest thing that resembled the Bose so no problem with WAF, but I guess when you pay peanuts, don't expect to get gorillas... ::)
SiriuslyCold Posted December 8, 2006 Posted December 8, 2006 DF, I already know what's inside :P hehehh! ts the TAS5182 (Power Stage Controller), TAS5076 (PWM Processor) with the YSS944-V dsp chip (here)

SiriuslyCold Posted December 9, 2006 Posted December 9, 2006 ugh http://www.mikedickerson.com/xr57 is dead :( yes there were pix of the innards of the xr57 it has the same stuff as the XR55 + HDMI
Slammer1624705845 Posted December 9, 2006 Author Posted December 9, 2006 Anyone listened to a panny XR-57 with mirage nanoset 5.1, or know where I can audition it? Do you think $1500 can get me this combo? Thx.
petetherock Posted December 10, 2006 Posted December 10, 2006 Sure S.C. I will sell it to you, kinda bored of it. If you are serious (and not sirius) Aus 500 ? i gotta carry it home. It costs about Aus650 online unless there is a shop closing down or something like that, or SRP price in most shops is Aus 749 At those prices, many amps in SG will be better value I reckon.
SiriuslyCold Posted December 10, 2006 Posted December 10, 2006 hm I did think the Oz pricing is a bit expensive compared to US street prices.
petetherock Posted December 10, 2006 Posted December 10, 2006 hm I did think the Oz pricing is a bit expensive compared to US street prices. Well its the 220v version. And I did say you can get a Mrantz SR 5001 or 4001 instead. SO I guess you are sirius and not serious :)
SiriuslyCold Posted December 10, 2006 Posted December 10, 2006 I had a Marantz 4500 before my XR25 but I like my XR25 more. so, when will you be back?
